I am new to this site along with building a website. I want to build a website to help my business. I run a childrens consignment store. I want a basic site where people can shop and see what we have at the store and things of this nature. Can someone point me in the right direction so I can start running?

If you are going to sell products from your site you want to choose a web host that has some sort of shopping cart software. If I remember correctly Powweb.com provides you with a free shopping cart for your products.

But you still are going to need to build and manage the regular content on your site. Do you have any web editing software? You're first going to want to get that. A lot of people here use Dreamweaver or CoffeeCup.
