Default Building an online community

I have read a lot of posts here on the benefits of building a community around my niche. I really like the idea of a forum, but I don't think I currently have enough traffic to make it worth while. I have been getting around 90 visits per day according to google analytics. Unfortunately only a couple of visits a day from search engines, I am working on my backlinks though, got a few now and I have my email list with 32 subscribers now. People have the option to leave comments on my blog and I have just included something called cbox on my site. It's a message box that allows people to leave messages about my site or my niche. So far a few of my visitors have left messages. Has anyone tried these?
