Is this guy totally stupid or is it me on the cost he wants to charge me to do one of my sites considering I am getting NO WHERE with getting joomla going or getting the site done...

Here is the email he sent me... What do you think... If this is NOT BABBLE I am not with the rest of the planet...

Dan,
here is the price quote for your project. I do understand that funds may not be there for this entire project. but please be aware that I am giving you a very good deal here. I currently work at a base rate of 65 per hour. I keep very busy, working billable hours 40 to 70 per week, and work never ends. My rate to you is 25 hr. and the other people that would be working on your project with me have agreed to cut there rates also, to assist in getting this done for you as cost effective as possible.

The _______________.com should be built using LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP) this would be the most cost effective platform.

The site would consist of three parts.

1. First the front end where the general public can get information about your services and sign-up for membership.
2. Members area
3. Admin center for controlling the entire site.

Rough break down

This quote is for a custom site that can be resold and you will own the code. This is a custom Application.

Create site look and company logo 30 hrs

Create database 20 hrs

Create php, Ajax programming for site 200 hrs

Create payment gateway 20 hrs

Create Forums area 160 hrs

Create Admin Area 50 hrs

Server setup, moving scripts, beta testing 10 hrs

Estimated hours 490 hrs

Estimated cost of this project 13,000.00

Time frame for project completion 8 weeks

Ummmm..... I don't know much about building custom sites with LAMP but I had to wonder if he added an extra 0 by mistake. Geez.... that seems a little steep!! Are you getting a website or making a down payment on a house? LOL. Hopefully some programmers can chime in but that just seems a bit much.

What's the deal with 160 hours for the forum? Are they building a customer forum? You could save money by doing that yourself with vbulletin or phpbb.

Default Smell the coffee.

Fact is, if I read that introductory paragraph I wouldn't care what the price was. I wouldn't even read any further.

I may not be an internet guru yet, but I do know a little about business and money. Whenever you hear that kind of "hype" run, don't walk, in the opposite direction. Whether the price sounds too high or too low, or even reasonable, you are looking for trouble to hang around.

Yes Lisa I do believe he made a mistake of adding a couple of 0'z on each item and totaled 490 hours... My calculations say that to do a site at his normal rate would cost me having to stand out on a street corner for a couple of days in vegas to get that much money...

I just wanted to have for the forum as being a place for the business members a place to network together to discuse how they can help each other...

I have been useing vBulletin for many years now when posting on the sites I go to and it seems simple to me...

13,000 - 200 = 12,800 left over to do the rest of the site... That didn't even include hosting I believe...

I agree with James. The hype was a bit much. Unless this guy is your brother or close cousin, why would he give you that much of a discount if he's not trying to dust your pockets for you. The hours did almost add up, but as Lisa said, you can do it yourself for far less money and take your savings and put it in your gas tank.

I just added the #'z and the hours did ad to 490 but when times $25.00 per it comes to $12,250.00...

Also who in there right mind can take that many hour to do the site...

At the regular charge it would come to $31,850...

If it is to take 8 weeks to do the site that is making $3,981.25 dollars per week, and $207,025.00 a year...

I'm in the wrong business...

I thought the guy was loaded by drinking to much not because of how much money he has...

Am I figuring this right as this guy would be putting in 61.25 hours per week for the project...
