I came up with something so stupid it hurts...but it might be genious though...
Ok so this is the thing...
I wanted to try something original...and when this idea came to my mind (like 10 secs ago or something) i realised that i've never been on a site like this!
I want to make a website of huhh...bets...not like gambling or money bets ...we have blubet for that...what i want is to put people daring each other!
Like...Oh i dare you dressing like a bunny and walk on your street for 10 mins, you have until monday...or something -.-'
Aww cmon it would be fun to ee those people doind those things ahah, it might work...
Here's other thing: people would win some "credits" for completing "I dare you" tasks...
But here is my problem..why would anyone want to win credits for?
I have to give something good and unique in ex-change..but what? i cant afford to spend money you know...
Any ideas to this problem?
Would you participate in the website?

The great thing about the net is that if you can market something the right way and to the right audience, there is always potential no matter how stupid (as you described it). My first question is how would the person prove they completed the dare? Would they be required to video tape themselves and then upload it your site? I can see a market for this among high school and college students.
Just make sure you have plenty of disclaimers all over the site. LOL I could see some goofball setting themselves on fire and then trying to sue your site for negligence. That's the kind of crazy things people do.

Lol lisa yeah of course i'm aware of that =), disclaimars and warnings in specific places like in the act of daring so that people wil actually read them and think of what they're doing, it was the first thing i thought about actually ^^.
I don't want anyone to hurt themselves of make something they don't want to...and of course that every single bet is going to be approved or denied before it is shown...so that no one gets out bad of this story.I'm actually very concerned about that issue but i think with some rules it can be cleared out effectivly.
And yes i thought about the other thing too, a video or any other proof otherwise it wouldn't be a valid task...
It still doesn't clear out my main problem...
"But here is my problem..why would anyone want to win credits for?"
Any ideas on this? would you participate? any problems on this idea?

I guess I'm confused at what you mean by "credits." Are you trying to think of something (a prize) they can redeem these credits for?

The credits could get them a t-shirt with your logo a website on it saying, "I did a dare at blah-blah.com" or credit to be entered into a drawing for something you can afford to buy once a quarter. Like a MP3 player.
Each dare could be worth so many credit, depending on the votes that people make.
There are a lot of things you could do with that, but I agree that you need to be careful with something like this. It should be fun, not dangerous.

you can have people exchange credits for gifts or access to sections of the site that can be considered as "premium".

@Lisa: Hmm "credits" or "points" or whatever you wan to call it are won for every I dare you task completed...and people wouldnt drss like a bunny in the middle of the road for nothing....i guess...so when they reached a certain vlue of points they would get a prize
@Alpha7: Damn your picture kicks ass is that you? xD.. yeh good idea that t-shirt thing! i like it! i really really like it... hmm but what would happen if the website starts getting very popular and i have to buy a million t-sirts a day? O.o damn tha scares me...gotta get a solution =/ thx alpha7
@pranz: yes we might consider that, it actually gives me an idea!...great help, thank you!
so...one more problem to resolve:
How will I afford those prizes...hmmm...maybe one managment with the ads...that could give me some money...or for example give a prize only every week for the one with more dare tasks...anyone had this experience before?...
What do you people think? Am i thinking too high? Would you actually participate in these dare tasks for a prize?

nope i wouldnt! but there are several hundreds of teenagers who would...and even more people would if you keep the users anonymous and i hate to say type this but the truth is people would if you add adult comments/dares etc.

Yep, that's my ugly head on Commander Riker's body. I just added some borg parts. I'm not that much of a trek fan to buy a uniform.

If you get a million visitors to your site, you may earn enough money to give away lots of t-shirts.

Interesting idea but you’d have to cover a lot of bases if you were to seriously think of following through with it.
In terms of the credits/points it would be interesting if they varied based on difficulty so for example going outside with a clown suit would get you 5 points, getting someone to kiss you while wearing a clown suit would get you 10 points, wearing nothing but you clown face masks and nose and streaking downtown would get you 100 points. (something along those lines just an example lol)
You should also think about making the site open ended. Maybe let users vote for how much points members get and let them determine what bets and dares they want to do. If you set up the site so that their are only guidelines and let them do the rest that would be less work for you and the less work you have to do that more you can focus on maintaining the site and making money off it (if that’s your goal)
Although I found the movie Jacka$$ to be extremely stupid you might have to think along those lines in the sense that people for some reason get amused being doing extremely stupid things...
As for prizes I liked the T-shirt idea (as you make more money better prizes obviously). You'd need to really brand your site and make it "cool" to have a shirt. And even if 1,000,000 people want shirts that means your getting 1,000,000 clicks
Just a few thoughts…

@ Multimastery: Yeah right ^^ can i get a t-shirt too? ^^
@ Great Elephant: yep i thought about that...to let people interact with the website in many ways...otherwise the visitors would get bored from just daring and get dared...But here we hit the biggest road block of this project:
-I don't know how to program in PHP...that's where you build those stuff so that visitors create accounts and manage them and dare each other and....stuff...right? ^^
And it sounds like something extremely complcated....If i'm going forward with this i can't do it with html only...it's impossible...
@ pranz: with your experience in programing...how much do you think it would cost to someone for set the whole database ready?...the votes the accounts the challenge dares......---(nice blog btw)

hey lobito,
sorry i missed this reply of yours. But, according to me, you got to think with respect to the entire project and not just the database.
The database ofcourse would be designed and the database will grow as more and more participate in your site and put in their dares and post dares for new people.
Other than the database you need to have a strong script in PHP i guess; coz php being the most economical option with respect to hosting and with respect to support as well! The script as i see it should have several features and this according to me is a full blown system with several database tables and php pages and loads and loads more.
As always do contact me, send me a PM or email me(my email address can be found in my blog) if you need to outsource this project to me and i shall evaluate the project in its entirely with the cost of designing the database, programming the script as well as testing and installation of the website and will give you a final quote(inclusive of everything) and then we can take it from there. so do tell me if you want to do that and we can start right away!
Thanks!
Awaiting your reply.
P.S: Also give me an idea of your budget so that i can be as reasonable as possible since i am assuming that this is your first project.
Cheers!
Pranz
