Thumbs down How can i make a site, that acualy makes money?

I have many ideas about different sites i want to make as in:
Photoshop video/text tutorial site
photography site - tips/videos/ebooks to help people improve on there photography
and other "how to" sites.

I have a few questions and im up for other ideas as well.
- How likely is it that i would make money?
- What are the steps to getting this done?
- how much money do i need to start one site (for adds and things)
- how should i go about advertising sites like this?
- Can e-books make money or just get traffic?

And if you are experienced and have success with your web site and see problems are unrealistic ideas please please let me know! I want to learn and try this out. I am open to any and all ideas even if it has nothing to do with "how to" websites.

Thank you all! I am looking forward to seeing what you all have to say!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You can make money from any topic on the internet. The topics you mentioned are in high demand. Of course, marketing is going to be the key. But first you need something to market. That would be your content. I would suggest that you start by reading up on web design and get your content together. Lisa has some really good stuff on creating web sites and marketing them. Check out her site if you haven't already. http://2createawebsite.com/

-How likely is it that you will make money? That depends on the work you put into it and if you follow the "laws" of the mighty search engines. Or you can spend lots of marketing dollars to get your site noticed.

-What are the steps? Build your content, get the traffic, and get your visitors to trust you, and monetize your site. (you are going to hear a lot about this here)

-How much will it cost you? It depends on the hosting company and/or program you choose.

-How should you advertise? There are several different ways. But start by driving traffic to your site.

-Can an e-book? Yes, you can sell one or give it away to earn the trust of your visitors. People love free stuff.

The search engines want content, the directories want content, and your visitors EXPECT content.

It sounds like you may have plenty of content to start with. I hope this helps to get you started.

mrdrpenquin, welcome to the forums,

Just to add to alpha7's great advice, remember this. People who make money online establish credibility. This takes time to develop but it starts with providing helpful information to a specific audience and you do this by appearing as the "expert" in your field. A lot of times people misinterpret the word "expert." I am hardly the "expert" in building websites, but I have done enough to make a living online. So in my sites I talk about what worked for me and I provide as much free advice as I can in the process.

This helps me build credibility and people are more likely to buy things I recommend if they trust and like my site. So becoming an expert doesn't mean you have to know everything about something. But you know enough to build a helpful site. And even though there will always be people in your niche that know more than you, there are still going to be a handful of people who don't know as much as you, and will consider you an "expert."

I make that point because a lot of people tell me, "I don't know enough about anything to make myself an expert." Surely everyone knows enough about something that will allow them to teach others who know less when it comes to that topic.

So focus on what you know and enjoy talking about. Build a useful site targeting a SPECIFIC group of people. Then find products and programs that relate to your topic that you can recommend and make money.

You are in complete control of how much money you make. And as alpha said, it depends on how much you put into it. But your first step should be figuring out a topic that you're most comfortable talking about. A topic that will allow you to inform, teach, entertain, etc. a specific audience so people will want to bookmark your site and buy products you recommend.

Hope that helps!
