Default where to place?

Hi, On SBI I am going to have a small business regarding photos, but I also want to give away free Textiles, and have a blog and advice regarding tips on photography. What I am asking is what do I place my website under? Prints, photography, textiles, etc; so that browsers can see that I have more than just one item, or maybe I should keep them all separate? any ideas?

I think you can definitely have all of this under one website.

I would include it under Photography or Art... but what are you referring to, though? Why do you need to specify a category?

Hi, maybe I did not explain my self fully. Bearing in mind I have never had a website before, and I am under the impression that you have to explain your business or what you are selling to somebody that is looking for something specific and will go to that site, but if my site is under photography or photos, how will they know my website that includes Textiles will be there, surely they will look under sites accommodating textiles? or have I got this all wrong?

I don't know much about textiles but unless the textile info is related to your photography info I don't know if I'd put that all under the same site. You want to keep your information as focused as possible, otherwise people may not want to link to you if your site covers too many things.

Let's say someone finds your site in Google after typing "photography tips". You can't assume they will be interested in your textile information too. In fact, your textile info may be ignored if it's not related to your photo info in any way. You cannot force people to read unrelated info and just because it's on your site doesn't mean they'll read it.

I just think it's best to keep your info as focused as possible and if you have a lot of info on another topic you want to add, just build another site so you can generate traffic for those keywords.

Hi Lisa, thanks for the info, it seems to me that if and when my site starts bringing in a little cash, I might very well have another SBI site or even have a go at building a new website, and then start with my Textiles from there?

Yes, I would stick with one topic. Then when you have success with that, try something new.

You sure about that? LOL

So you mean textures in how they relate to photography? I see no reason why you couldn't have a section on your photography site about Textures. Since the two are somewhat related no need for a separate site unless you have a ton of information on Textures to make one site.
