I have a website and I have some associated ideas I want to expand on. I was wondering if it was better to create a new website or create an ebook that I can sell on my current site. The other question I have is if I decide to create a separate website is it better to be a subdomain of the current website or a separate domain name.

It depends on the goals for your content. If you have a ton of content that you feel will need to be updated often then a website is probably best. And as far as the subdomain, keep in mind that when you create it the engines see that as a new site so you have to start all over again with rankings for that subdomain.

Some people see this as a negative but there is a positive spin to this. Say your subdomain becomes popular and develops a good Page Rank, etc. then you can cross-link it with your existing website and have another quality link pointing to your website. That's sort of what is happening with my blog on 2create. I have it on a subdomain and had to start over, but now the PR is up to a 3 (which is somewhat respectable) so it's now considered a decent quality link pointing back to my main site.

So if you have a ton of content and feel this information should somehow be set off from the rest of your content then a sub domain may be best. It really just depends on how you want to brand it.

I would consider how you will market and pre-sell your book. Will you capitalize on the credibility you have developed through your existing website? If so, I would sell it through your existing website.

If, however, the topic is slightly different, I would consider going the new website route.

I guess the point I was getting at is it better to have a separate domain that has a shorter name or a subdomain that is associated with the current website.

And I would have a similar answer. I don't think there is a cut and dry answer to that question because it depends on your plans for marketing this.

Let's say you want to promote it on a business card or flyer. Obviously a shorter domain name will work best for this scenario. But on the other hand, what if you want this book to be branded under your current site then a subdomain may be the ideal choice.

Keep in mind you can do both. You can create a subdomain for the book or just put the book in a folder on your server, but for marketing offline, flyers, etc. you can use a new domain name that redirects to it. That's sort of what I did with my AdSense eBook, Untold AdSense Facts.

The book is saved under my current 2createawebsite domain and has a very long address, but for offline marketing, word-of-mouth, and other reasons I also registered UntoldAdSenseFacts.com and it redirects to the PDF book.

So what's better depends on what you plan to do with it. I don't think there is a flat out right or wrong thing to do here.

Hi Tom, i'm not that of an expert when it comes to web desing but i would like to leave my mark

For example, i'm helping a friend at a project of his own, a comics book, and i was planning on presenting it online so the 1st thing i thought was an e-book...

Well i am making a website exclusively to his comics book, so i plan to show it there, only because the 2 things have EVERYTHING to do with each other.

Well i think that if it is on the content of your website you can even create a special division on the website promoting the e-book, not needing to have another website only with the e-book, you can even change your website a bit so that the e-book fits better, but if you want to treat that e-book or whatever as something really important or independant, then i think that you should give it a website for his own...

Well i think i made my point =D just decide what you think that is better for your ideas, and good luck =)
