Default Building a job-search website

Hi,

Both my partner and I are not computer experts, but we are in the process of building a job-search website for job seekers (something like www.monster.com or http://www.careerbuilder.com). The website requires space to store "jobs" and a "searching function". How do we do that? What kind of applications do we need? And what web hosting should we use?

** Jobs would be inserted by our clients (i.e. companies)
** Searching function would be used by candidates (i.e. job seekers)

Thank you.

Regards,
Thomas

Hi

If you don't want to get too involved into technical programming, I'd recommend going to www.rentacoder.com and hiring someone to do the initial setup for you. Then you can maintain the non-dynamic content in your own web editing software going forward.

I don't think this would be too terribly hard. Sounds like a database but I'm not sure what programming language is best. Maybe someone else could chime in.

The great thing about rentacoder.com is you can often get the job done very quickly because the coders use the same programs for multiple jobs. Say someone else has requested a similar search script. They would just use it again for your site and customize it to your liking.

I've used rentacoder for quite a few things on my site and I've been very happy with the results. You can pay them via PayPal and you don't pay until the work is done.

Yes, it would definitely require a back-end database and a language such as PHP or ColdFusion to power it - though I'm far from an expert in such matters!

Nevertheless, it'd be a big job (and probably quite frustrating) to set up by yourselves and if the service mentioned by the previous poster is a good one - and it certainly sounds as if it is - I'd go for that, or even put the word out here to see if anyone could set it up for you.

I suggest to buy a ready made job script which will be database drivin.

There are lots of cheap scripts out there and you will get guidance to install script and even some companies will install it for you.

Thanks all. I have discussed with my partner and we would either go for the job script or get someone from the link suggested earlier for the PHP/ MySQL to set up this database.

After we started to build our website using one of the web hosting services offered by providers such as Startlogic, hostmonster, or webhostingpad, can we then contact the technical person to do the coding for us? Or should I work with the technical person for the database first prior to building up the website??
