Default Going for the gusto

So I’m enjoying this webmaster stuff so much, I’m already scheming on my second site. Don’t worry, I don’t plan to dive in until I’m over 1,000 uniques per day on my first site. (I ‘m coming up on 100 uniques per day now…woohooo ) I’m giving myself 12 months to get to a 1000…but I digress. On to the site idea:

Be forewarned, it would be a massive undertaking. (I got the idea from a guy that runs one of the most succesful dating sites in canada)

Here’s the concept: Digg for travel!

If you’re not familiar with Digg, check digg.com.

It would be a format like that, but I would probably have to get the juices rolling with the best 10 places to eat, stay, and visit in each country and folks can then vote to digg the selections up or down.

After that, selections would then roll off the top 10 list or on to the top 10 list based on people digging new locations by or . It would be a massive undertaking but man, the payoff could be sweet.
Thoughts?

I think it’s a good idea. I kind of reminds me of a cross between Yahoo answers and Digg, but I think the “top 10” idea would make it stand out. Do you have any domain names in mind?

Do you mean you will have a top 10 list of destinations, or a separate list for each destination?

West, Nah I don't have any domain names in mind, but I can almost guarantee it will be something stupid..haha

I meant a seperate list for each destination. So say if it' s 100 countries (that would be 100 lists. But (in my mind's eye at least), an actual list would just be one page made up of 10 short snippets with 10 pictures.

Users could provide their own short snippet and picture of something that they think should make the top 10 for that country, and choose which list they want to try for. As soon as their entry got 1 more thumbs up than the lowest location on that list, their entry would get onto the top 10 and bump off the weakest entry on the list.

Man, that sounded a lil confusing just typing it. ha

I think this could work, especially if you start small. I wouldn't try to target all the restaurants in Canada or the U.S. for example. I'd start small with restaurants in one area. Then once you build that traffic base you could expand it to other parts.

Social bookmarking sites on smaller scales can work. I just think you have to really focus on that small niche when you start.

Thanks folks...I'll hash this out a bit more in the months to come and see what I come up with. I'll check back to see if anyone wants to come along for the ride then.
