Default Need Tutorial Content Ideas

I'm thinking of adding a tutorial section to my website for people trying to design their own websites. I'm doing this for two reasons:

1) To help people who get as frustrated as I did when first starting out. I know how it feels. I've never had any formal training with computers, my degree is in physics. (Yup, I'm weird ) Everything I've learned is from trial and error (a lot of it!) So I enjoy helping people alleviate that frustration when I can.
2) Well,..to drive traffic, why else?

Those two reasons are, however, in the correct order.

So, long winded as I am, I have two questions I would like your opinions on:

Would the best way to do this be a blog, forum, or simple webpage format? Which would be more user-friendly and accessible in your opinion?

What types of tutorials would you like to see on there? More basic overview type of subjects (i.e. general css), specific topics (i.e. password protection scripts) or a mixture of them all?

Look forward to your replies. Thanks.

Hey DotComBot,

Good idea and that was my inspiration for my site (not having help when I got started). I think sites created from own personal experiences can go over well because you are in touch with what your potential audience needs. You seemed to be very well versed in CSS so I think a thorough site on how to setup a site using CSS would be very helpful.

When I think back to when I first started, I wished I took the time to learn more about CSS. Now that I use it, I can't imagine doing a site without it. And up until I bought a book on CSS and Dreamweaver, most sites didn't make it very clear on how to start a site from scratch using CSS. I think that would be a huge help to newbies. I don't think a lot of people starting out even know about or realize the importance of creating a site with CSS. I sure didn't.

There are benefits and drawbacks to both blogs and websites but I would think if you are going to do a thorough tutorial on creating sites and design, a full website will give you much more flexibility. You can always add a blog for just more focused content. JMO.

I think you should pick whatever your specialty is with design and develop that. The more niche your site is, the easier it will be to get traffic. If CSS is your thing then I agree with Lisa, go ahead and go with that. People are always looking for CSS templates and I can only think of maybe 5 sites that have them for free.

If you could build a site with great advice and offer free templates that can go over well. Everyone wants you to pay for everything so it's always refreshing to see people giving away quality, free things. What they don't realize is that builds credibility and traffic... which grows your income longterm.
