Hi, I think this statement would be a good niche idea. I can't think of any good keyword phrases off the top of my head, but research something like "first time affiliate" or something related to getting your feet wet in the affiliate business.

Is your site going to be basically a referral site or do you want to have a lot of written content about being an affiliate? Since there is a lot of competition with the "affiliate" keyword, I think you'll be better off with showing people how to start out in the affiliate business, rather than just referring them to different programs.

It may take a while to find the perfect niche, but you shouldn't let competition stand in your way. You'll most likely have to deal with it no matter what niche you choose.

Hi Awamable,

Affiliate marketing is a very competitive niche. If you want to have success with it, you will need a to find a unique perspective and have a lot of passion for your topic.

For us to help you find a good a niche we need to know a bit about you. What do you like to do for hobbies? What topics are you knowledgeable about? What have you always been interested it?

There are a lot of other affiliate programs out there and you should be able to find something for your particular niche, even if it is not about affiliate marketing. So please don't feel you have to create a site about affiliate marketing unless you are extremely interested and excited on the subject.

A lot of people with SBI sites, in any variety of niches, have great success with getting others to sign up with SBI because their sites are so successful others want to give it a try themselves.

Hi Awamable and welcome,

I agree with West and Theresa. Affiliate marketing is VERY competitive. I once had a site in that niche but the competition was so thick I had to get out. It's better to write a site on your hobby and THEN find related affiliate programs to match your theme, rather than just promoting affiliate programs and how to make money online.

I can understand why traffic may be a challenge, the niche is so, so competitive. In fact I think Ken even suggests to avoid topics like "affiliate programs" and "making money". Seems like I remember reading that in the Action Guide.

Like Theresa said, it's best to come up with a unique spin on your topic. For example you could focus on the mistakes that people make when promoting affiliate programs or something like that instead of just the broad topic of "affiliate programs".

Another concern with your topic is that you aren't having much success yet. And to win that credibility with your audience they want to see what has worked for you. So the problem with creating a site on how to make money with affiliate programs when you haven't done it yet is that it will be difficult to gain that credibility. People want to know what you've done to succeed and then they will buy products you suggest. But without that credibility you're just another site in the sea of affiliate sites.

Have you chosen your domain name yet?

Yes, the word affiliate is way too competitive. However, you can use some of the keyword tools available out there to come up with long tail keyword phrases related to affiliate marketing. That's what i did and it works pretty well. It's also good to have a fitting domain name if you can find one that has your keyword phrase in it.

And yes, you need to really put up some informative content to get readers and subscribers because there is so much out there.

Ahhh yes... the long tail. If you learn how to capitalize on that then you can really hit a gold mine on nearly any niche. That reminds me, I need to write some articles on that. Good point marketingmama.
