structuring an idea or topic
ok, you've got the topic you want to write about, but there's one problem... you don't know where to start. actually to be specific... you can write about this topic for days, but is there a website where it could show you step-by-step how to organize your thoughts correctly? in a type of outline, maybe? i have the content written down, but the only thing i'm missing is that structure... does my question make any sense??
thanks!

You can use the SBI Video Action Guide. I believe it is available to non-SBIers. Days 2 and 3 offer a great overview of site structure and how to pick your page topics.
In a nutshell, structure your site like a pyramid. Your home page is the very tip or tier 1. Your tier 2 pages link to and from your tier 1 and cover broader topics within your niche. You should have at least 5-7 tier 2 pages.
Tier 3 pages are the base of the pyramid and link to and from the tier 3 pages. Each tier 2 page should have several tier 3 pages that are sub-topics to the tier 2.
Cross link tier 2 and 3 pages if it makes sense to do so.
Each and every page on your site should be built around a keyword in your niche. Use Keyword Selector Tool and Wordtracker to help with keywords. Follow the advice in the Action guide on how to choose the right keywords.

The world is vast and all the topics that you can find here are vast by itself. What you need to do first divide your topic into subtopics. For example, if I want to write about vehicles then my subtopics will be water vehicles, air vehicles and road vehicles.
Then select one sub topic and break it further into questions. For example, let me take road vehicles. Now my questions will be:
1) What are the different types of road vehicles?
2) Which road vehicle is best for me?
3) Which is the mostly used road vehicle?
If you notice, each question will be a topic to write about by itself. You tend to think because you have not divided your topic into subparts.
Just start writing. Don't think much.
Hope this solves your problem.

wow techMonster... that was actually pretty deep and inspirational. i think so much that i get so confused, then i look at other people's websites and i think to myself.. "these people are so organized, my website doesn't even make any sense compared to these others". but you know what? i've just got to stop thinking and just keep writing the content. i'm up to about 23 pages, but it's just not orgainized. and if i keep comparing my stuff with other people's stuff, i'll just be so overwhelmed that i'll end up losing interest and not do anything. so thanks for the energy booster! i needed that actually.

Never try to match up with the style used by others. I used to do that long back. But I now I've realized one thing that is everybody is special and unique. Another thing I have understood practically is that, its better to do something first and then think rather than wasting time in thinking and doing nothing. What do you think?

i think you're totally awesome. you're so right. that was exactly what i was doing... just writing and writing away. then, i started looking at other websites that were dealing with the same subject (or niche) and then i was like, "omg, how in the world can my site compare to these?!" then i just start thinking and thinking... and i loose interest in writing because i wonder if it's even worth working on. and here i am. but you've got a point, where there are those people who want a site to be unique and on a personal level, per sa. what do you think techMonster?

how do you all overcome this and keep yourselves motivated? i can really use some inspiration! i always think... "ok, will anyone ever visit my site and actually have an interest in it?"... but then I think, "wait, there are over 6 billion people in the world." all i'm asking for is a handful i guess. but lisa gave some really awesome tips on her blog. so that's one thing i keep in mind, and it actually keeps me writing. anyone else have any advice?
