    Default Money

I was just wondering if anyone here would be willing to share their monthly hit count and the amount of money they make off of it. I really want to make web design and marketing into my future, but I want to get a grasp on how much money that could possible bring me. Also it would give me a good target to shoot for.

Also what is the biggest money making idea, informative websites like the ones lisa hosts or feature websites that have a more tool-like purpose.

I have been at this for a while but still have never finished any thing because my heart isn't in it enough to believe it will make me any sort of money.

I'm tired of feeling like I know so much but working at walgreens.

    Any help is greatly appreciated...

What I've learned in my short time of talking to people (and from Lisa) is that learning about people's income and traffic has nothing to do with your own site's potential. I asked a similar question on another forum and got flamed big time. Now I understand why.

You take Lisa's site 2create for example that makes a lot of money but there are copycatters out there with very similar sites who make absolutely nothing 'cause they have no traffic and don't know how to market. So you shouldn't really use someone else's traffic and income story to estimate how much you can make. What they make really has nothing to do with your potential. Lisa's success is not just because of her topic. She has a style, personality and presentation that is unmatched in her niche as far as I'm concerned. So she stands out. So I think that also has a lot to do with her success.

Try to find something you can be an expert in and focus on that. If you can generate a lot of traffic and credibility like Lisa has then you can make good money too. I can't answer your question about which sites make more money but I can tell you that if you can create something that is useful to a specific audience and it becomes popular, you will make a lot of money no matter if it's an information site or a tool site.

It's about becoming popular in whatever you do. Hope I haven't spoken for you Lisa but that's what I've learned from you and now I get that as I continue to research opportunities for myself.

Excellent advice you two. I can't speak for everyone here making money but I personally don't like to give detailed info on my traffic and income because quite frankly it's irrelevant to most people as far as potential is concerned. It also causes people to use my own results as a benchmark for their own and that can get you off track mentally. As mack77 said, ANY site can make money so it doesn't matter what it's about.

Just make sure if you want to do web design and marketing, it's something you are truly passionate about and you can offer your own unique perspective on the topic instead of just re-reporting the facts that are already out here. One reason I chose the topic of website creation because at the time (2002) I didn't feel there were a lot of sites out there like mine so I felt there was room for me and what I wanted to do. So I took it and ran with it.

But I agree with the others. It's not about the topic other successful people chose. If you are truly committed and energized by your topic, anything is possible. I cannot emphasize enough though that it's important YOU are interested enough in the topic to write about it for years and years to come. I've seen so many people choose topics because they see other people succeeding only to realize they weren't passionate enough to continue updating the content and be unique. They only chose it because they saw so many other people with similar sites who were succeeding.

I'm not saying that's what you're trying to do, but I always throw that out there when other people ask about statistics for successful websites. Take your time brainstorming what's right for YOU. Because the great thing is, there's an audience for almost any niche. You just have to plan, develop and execute well.

I would rather not expose any income details but I can say this. Once I tasted a few affiliate sales over $30, I went so ballistic focusing on generating more traffic that my sales began to increase.

No matter how you slice it the graph always climbs upward. That's a guarantee that you won't get in the stock market.

This takes a minimal investment of revenue and a large investment of time to be a success on the Internet.

If your only goal is making money, then invest your time into finding a job you like or education. While you can make money online, it's very unlikely if it's your only motivation.
I won't share my monthly hit count/income but I generally make $20 per 100k page views using Adsense. Prepare to invest years of hard work before you can even get close to what they pay at Walgreens (whatever that may be).

About the real web design industry, it sucks. With all the people cracking software and designing for a few cents, it's almost impossible to compete unless you're able to create a name for yourself/company. I hope it does have a future but I have a strong feeling that due to all the competition from India and other low income countries (no offense), you won't be able to make a decent living as a freelance designer for the rest of your life.
