Newbies first forum!

Hi
I have not been on for while but busy building and very much learning how to do this website thing! My god have I learnt some stuff!

I thought I would start with a forum (although may of been the wrong way round) just to practice with and build up slowly - not in a major hurry as I am still working on the website. The idea is for people to share memories, pictures, funnies, stories about all sorts of places. It is something that really interests me and find fascinating especially when you come across websites with various everyday items with faces, derelict places, pets in places, etc..... The idea of the website is to accumulate all things to do with places and bring them together on the site but not to be a directory of places to go and visit as there are loads of these.

It is more like a portal/monthly newsletter bringing together all types of place information. I am having fun although can only do a bit at a time am learning so much daily, thanks to the great postings on here and browsing around certain topics.

I will let you all know when I have the site up - should not be too long.... The problem is that it is all so interesting I keep coming up with ideas and not enough time in the day!

So glad you have been getting some ideas for your site. Sounds like ideas are flowing. Let me just ask you though, how do you plan to attract traffic to this site? As I've said many times here, I would not recommend starting your journey with a forum because it's so difficult to build up activity without a traffic base.

Another thing is I wonder if you should narrow your focus a bit. You said you want people to share memories, etc. but how are you going to attract people to this site? In other words, what keywords would you expect someone to type in Google to find this website? I'm just trying to get you to think a little more narrow so you can attract a specific audience.

I appreciate your comments and yes I know you are right in regards to having the website as the base first and then building up the forum. I did this because at the time I could not decide what type of site to have as I agree with some of the other comments on here that a static would not necessary be a reason to revisit.... I therefore thought more of a portal type/monthly newsletter to keep the interest and content fresh (hopefully) and as the forum grew I could use some of the content posted regarding places or pick up on a theme.

In regards to Key words I suppose I would use words such as Haunted Places, Places to Work, Fun Places, Night Out Places, Holiday Places, Derelict Places and then use the name of some of the places. Looking into the keyword side of things is pretty much my next aim.

OK, great. Just wanted to make sure you have some kind of idea of supply and demand for your targeted keywords.
