I'm not sure if this is where to ask this, but I'm stuck in the brainstorming phase.

I am a college student who loves life, and every day I'm learning something new about the real world. The problem I had was learning some of the insider tips about college that you get from upperclassmen that you know. I don't very many upperclassmen, so much of this information was gained through experience. Anyhow, I was thinking about publishing this information somehow. At first I thought it might be better suited to a magazine, and then I figured it would be better suited to be an online magazine since college kids spend most of their time on computers and the internet. Now I'm beginning to think that this information would be better suited for a book since it is information that doesn't change, and magazines tend to be for current information.

Any thoughts?

How 'bout starting with a website or blog about your topic, draw traffic to that and then promote your book from your site. Your site or blog would contain information that you update frequently, then you could promote your book that has the more static/unchanging information.

When you say an "online magazine" do you mean sort of like a website that is updated monthly like a magazine?

First, I think this is a great idea and you should definitely pursue it!

Were you thinking of a real book (one you can buy in a bookstore) or like an e-book?

The alternative to writing a book, would be to organize a website around the different topics you would like to talk about. After you have some content up you can start adding ads and promote affiliate offers and generate money that way.

Personally, I would go the website route... but maybe I am biased since I already know how to monetize a website, and the thought of writing a book seems intimidating.

Since your target audience is college students, you can promote it where college students hang out online, e.g. Facebook.

I agree with doing a Web site or blog. Blogs are made for publishing personal experiences.

As Lisa mentioned, you can then use your traffic to promote a book.

Thanks for the advice! I was wondering if you guys might have any suggestions as where and how to start a blog? I know this is probably a simple question for you guys, but in my experience these questions are best left to those with the experience. My gut instincts also tell me that certain blogs attract certain demographics, i.e. the college student.
