If you Google "free chat script" or something like that there are hundreds of chat room scripts. To install them you have to upload the provided files to your web host and often times change a few parameters. The instructions are generally provided with the script you download.

Also, some web hosts that have CPanel have scripts you can install right from your hosting account. So check with them to find out if they have any scripts available. That makes it much easier for you to add other features such as this.

I haven't used a chat room in ages but when I had a site based on TV show once I used this chat program called RolfChat and it worked pretty good. In fact I have a small tutorial on how to install it.

Cool

If you wanted to go REALLY simple, there is this nice web application called Meebo (http://www.meebo.com).

You can create chat rooms there and embed them on your site with no setups or configurations.
