I prefer XP honestly. I'm still wanting to pick me up a copy of Windows 7 thou. I've the beta and I was impressed with the level of work Microsoft had put into it. It's what Vista should have been...

XP or Vista?
I've been using Vista for over 3 years and really like it but it has it's problems. It's a little sluggish and the "search" features aren't accurate. They supposedly fixed these in Win 7, so we'll see. XP is not supported by MS anymore.

I just bought an XP refurbished laptop for working off site. My understanding is that Windows 7 will actually have an XP work mode where you can still run your programs. Then, I'll be ready to get a good new notebook.

I like XP because I find it faster and uses less resources. I also haven't had as many problems with XP as I have had with Vista.
I heard Windows 7 is supposed to be much better than its predecessors. I think Microsoft learned its lesson from the Vista fiasco.
Since I still use an older desktop, I'll be using XP until either I replace the desktop or Microsoft stops supporting XP in April 2014.

Yeah I really like Windows Vista. I was so happy when I bought my new lap top and Vista was installed on it. It looks better and runs smoother. The great thing about it is I get like a free windows 7 upgrade so I am happy. Although, there doesn't really seem to be too big of a difference between 7 and Vista.

I love XP. It runs a lot faster with 4 gigs than Vista. Although I have limited experience on Vista because my wife has completely taken over my laptop. But I use my desktop (xp) all the time. I only use the laptop when I have a lot of work to do and I want to pretend I'm having family time. (Did I say that out loud?) Hey, a man's gotta work!

I like both. XP is better in a sense because it uses less resources, but on my main PC with 6gb of RAM, I'm running Vista and I like it too. It "feels" nicer than XP, if that makes any sense.
I'll be upgrading to Windows 7 soon.

XP 100% all the way
I have heard good things about Windows 7 although I'm not willing to kill my productivity which is what happened with VISTA
I purchased a brand new Lenovo Thinkpad (business laptop) a while ago, and even though windows vista was Windows primary operating system, Lenovo still packaged their think pads with XP
If that doesn't tell you how much vista sucks I don't know what is...
You may want to see if Lenovos use windows 7 to see if it is worth getting because they don't want to ship all their business laptops to businesses and have their tech support working 24/7 to resolve ridiculous OS problems...

XP for me at this time but I will be installing Windows 7 over the Xmas holidays, would love to do it now but too busy to install the OS on all my systems.
I was a beta tester on Vista and loved it but when RTM Vista came out a couple of my friends got it and had nothing but trouble with it so stayed with XP, I think Microsoft made some major changes to it from RC stage to RTM stage cos it just looked and felt completely different IMHO.
I was also a beta tester on Windows 7 and found it so much better than Vista even during the testing stage, it did actually use less resources than my good old XP, let's just hope that it doesn't get bloated out with the RTM and service packs.
IMHO Windows 7 seems alot more secure and robust than Windows Vista too, but time will tell

i would have to say windows 7 all the way. I have been beta testing it, and every machine I have put it on, it has blown away whatever operating system it has on it, whether its xp or vista, hands down it kills vista, I would honestly say I like it better than xp, (was a die hard xp guy)

I have to say from my experience XP is better, if for no other reason, then it is the more stable of the two, though the initial reviews indicate that Windows 7 is better then either XP or Vista.
Sal
P.S. IMHO, the Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard) is better then any of the Microsoft OS's ... of course, again that is my opinion, but I do use XP a lot and the Mac OS a lot.

I am an XP lover and I will stick with it until I get a new system. Right now I am torn between getting a Mac or upgrading to Windows 7.
I'm glad I have more time to make my decision. These comments are helping me.

Well... eh,
Number one reason why Mac a 'better' OS is the fact that they control the processes of building the PC, and the installation of the operating system. This gives them the ability to slim down the amount of drivers they need to install into the OS due to their control over the hardware.
Windows on the other hand... can go onto any machine, which means billions, if not trillions, of different configurations and setups. Keeping up with all the different types of hardwares and setups has to be an overwhelming challenge, and I'm guessing, a nightmare for the engineers at Microsoft. The side-affect of this is a little more bloated operating system.
My in-laws have a Mac, and after playing with it for a little while, I think it's a great product, but not something for me. I don't like the idea where I can't fix my own problems without calling apple support.
