Default Technical Question...Help

Ok, at home, I have an awesome computer with all the bells and whistles. I plan to use SBI to create my website. My Desk Top has the newest version of microsoft word for Vista.

Also, I have a Dell Inspirion 700m. It has an older version of microsoft word and it runs Windows XP. I am thinking about buying the internet card either through Sprint or ATT, because I would like to be able to work on my site using my Lap Top when I am not at home.

Questions:

1. Can I work on my website, using SBI, with my Lap Top as well as my Desk Top even though one runs on windows xp and the other runs on vista?

2. When I save a text on microsoft word on my Lap Top, which is an older version running on XP, will I be able to email that document or burn a disk and will my Desk Top which has Vista and the newest version of Micro Soft Word be able to read it and the document look the same?

Also, is there anything else I need to know about using a broadband internet card either through Spring or ATT that you think I should know?

Please help,

Flavel

Hi Flavel

Your OS has nothing to do with using SBI!. Everything you need to access for SBI! is at http://login.sitesell.com You could even use Windows 3.1 if you wanted as long as you have Internet access.

Same goes with the programs. You just install Microsoft Word on your machine and you can open your Word files. Or if you're getting the professional edition of Vista that has Word, you can still open files saved on earlier versions of Word.

A: I have not used SBI before and I am not sure if it support older browsers, but I believe any computer with an internet connection and a Internet explorer (or similar browser) above version 5 should be able to work on most of the web based related work like what SBI is offering.

A: using a word document in different version (either old to new or new to old) of word is ok if there is minimum of formatting in the word document, and that you have save the word file in generic word doc format (see the option in word when you use 'Save as'). Newer version MSWord usually introduce new stuff and you may encounter problem if you have a lot of formatting in your word file.
My advice is try stick to one version to avoid the headache if you are going to work on word document with lots of formatting.

Re: Broadband Service

I use Verizon, which I think is similar to ATT and Sprint. It's really convenient, because regardless where I am, I am connected. The speed is a little slower than "high speed internet" but it's usually pretty decent. With Verizon, the speed depends on how many bars I am getting (i.e. signal strength).

Let me know if you have specific questions about it, and I would be glad to help.
