Default WiFy

Been having so many problems with our cable modem and everyone wanting to be on the net at the same time, that we broke down and bought a WiFi outfit. Got it up and running pretty quick and seems to work pretty good.

I do have a question. Am trying to make heads and tails out of how security works...I know we have 128 bit encryption on the browser, but I sure don't understand how this firewall works they have on WiFi...They have some selections and a help file, but it all seems like jibberish to me. Anyone know anything about setting up security for WiFi Router?

I'm not sure what router you have, but there are a few things you should look for:

1. Always setup a strong admin password for your router. The admin password is what you use to log in to your router and change the settings.

2. Use WPA-AES instead of WEP for the algorithm. It is much more secure. It is very important that you change this setting. Look up in the help file how to change it.

3. When using WPA, make sure you create a secure passcode. This passcode is what others will use to connect to your router.

I have a few posts on my blog about securing two popular routers. If one of them is yours, then you can follow those instructions.
