Default Your First Website

Thought it would be fun to hear stories about everyone's first website.

I believe my first website was a Backstreet boys fansite hosted on Geocities.
I still remember a dark blue background with a picture of the guys centered in the middle and no further information. This was probably 10 years ago.

What was your first website about?

My very first was a blog called "cloud9career". I posted random stuff about finding your dream job, interview techniques, etc. It was so hard to keep up with it because I didn't enjoy writing about that subject.

After that, I started a website for my boyfriend's business, he designs baseball caps for a living. That site went pretty well, but we eventually took it down because we weren't getting a lot of visitors.

Now I have my baby shower website, which is doing well. I want to start another website early next year.

My first site was about multimedia around 1997. I think it was also on Geocities, but I had sounds and images hosted on Homestead, which offered a large amount of disk space for free.

I remember how simple the Web was back then compared to now. You had to keep things really small because everyone was on a dialup modem and the speeds were about 14.4, 28.8 and 56Kbps. Those were the days.

I hear ya TG.. My first site, in 1996 or so, was a site on Sociology, since I was a Soc graduate student at that time, and was free-hosted on Angelfire. I remember that I had the word Sociology tiled on the background in dark letters and my text, which was in blue, would sometimes disappear in the background...but everybody thought it was cool... I made a few similar sites after that which were a little better. I often wonder if they are still up or floating around the Web somewhere ready to come back and haunt me when I least expect it... Nice thread Nora...

Great thread!

My first website was hosted at FreeYellow.com (used to be free but now they charge) and it was an affiliate flea market site that advertised everything from mystery shopping to Amazon books. It was terrible!

That's funny cause I heard building websites back then was like rocket science compared to today

But anyways my first blog was just last year(March, 2007). Named "Ryan's Alternative Health Fortress". Well, I did not own anything recommended by the gurus(aka Jon Barron, Kevin Trudeau, Mike Adams, David Wolfe). Who was I to write about it.

Yes, there are well documented cases for both their safety and effectiveness(which by the way the media debunks). But all that is worth nothing unless you can live to tell it(in my opinion).

When I do have enough money, this is an area I want to get back into! But right now I love reviewing online games and talking about singer Michael Jackson. I could go on and on and on writing on those interests.

My first website was one we had to create for a computer applications class in college. I can't even remember what it was about. It was back when I thought surfing the web was a huge waste of time. I guess it still can be a time waster, but is a money maker as well!

Building web sites was easy since only the simple HMTL tags were needed. Layout tags were handled in each page, such as FONT tags.

Updating the pages of the entire site, however, was rocket science.

when did WYSIWYG come out?

Gotcha

I wonder what the very first website looked like? If Wikipedia's right, my has the net evolved! It took my parents awhile to buy a computer and ISP because(like many in the 90's), we just didn't trust it.

However, my first time on the web was in 1992 while at the media center of my elementary school. I was in the second grade(AllTheWeb hadn't even come out yet).

When did you guys first go online?

The net has evolved from simple static Web pages to entire Web applications and social mediums.

The Web has been around since 1992, but the Internet has been around for over 40 years.

You may be thinking of ArpaNet which I believe was the original protocol for the military and government in the case of a nuclear blast so communication could be established between them.
