How Is Everyone Dealing with the High Gas Prices?
I live in Central NJ where the gas is slowly getting to $4 a gallon and it hurts, but what can I do? I have to pay for it. But, I have been driving less and I'm seriously thinking about getting a motorized scooter to zip around town locally and just drive my suv when I have to go out on the highway.
Just wondering how much gas is where everyone else is and how they're handling these rising gas prices. With gas, milk, rice and everything else going up, everyone seems to affected in one way or another it seems.

I live in the Phila, PA area and gas has just gone past $4 in some areas. Some stations are still at $3.95. There's really nothing I can do about it either. I was thinking about taking public transportation to work, but that's 3 busses each way for me. And since gas is rising, the bus prices will soon go up too. We're already at $2 for a one-way fare. I wish I could walk to and from work.
Have you heard about a trucking company called Jevick in NJ? They abruptly went out of business last week due to the gas prices. Everyone was laid off, and no one got severence pay! And no one know the company was closing until the day it happened. The CEO was fighting hard to save the company, but there was nothing he could do. This left about 1500 people out of work.

Wow
No, I didn't hear about that. I never heard of that trucking company before and that is sad and what's sadder a LOT of smaller companies are losing money and people are just struggling - everywhere and in so many different ways. So sad about those people and no severance pay?
So, you're in Phila? The scooter place that I'm dealing with is not too far from there. The town is called Brighteon, NJ. I told my cousin this morning I'm parking my Explorer and she just laughed at me. I'm dead serious!

Up here in Canada our prices are a bit higher. We use litres and not gallons (1 gallon = 3.78541178 litres). Over the past week or two prices have been around $1.25/litre (~$4.73/gal).
For me, I try not to drive too much, since I don't live far from shopping centres and try to minimize the number of trips I make.
It'll be tough in the summer when they decide to raise the prices even higher.

I drive as little as possible and close my eyes at the pump so I don't see the numbers totaling up.

That's cute...lol
Down here in Florida it's already over $4.00 bucks for regular unleaded(Orlando Metro Area). Sure took the .69 cents for granted back in the day.
Firmly, I believe Ron Paul would fix this problem in due time. But how the system works, the American peoples vote don't count much anymore...sigh Hope I'm wrong...

Hello there,
I live in Europe, and in Europe the gas price is anyway higher than in the States.
But lately the prices are going up and up... As gas prices are going up, almost anything costs more.
It is hard to keep up with these rising prices. Life is getting more and more expensive.
In Europe the cost of 1 litre of gas is around 1.2-1.3 Euro. That is very expensive.
I don't know but some measures has to be taken.
The worse part is that the gas prices will not go down, it will go even higher. That is my main concern.
Kind regards,
Izabella

I keep on driving my non gas-friendly truck, and keep on doing what I do. When I pull up at the pump I usually pull three or four tongue depressers out and bite on them as I pump the gas.

Gas Prices
In fall 2007, the husband and I moved from WA state back to the Boston area. We traded in our 2 4-wheel drive cars (lived in the mountains and needed 'em) for a Prius. Boy, that was a good decision -- and we didn't know how good it would be!
When I start my FT job in July, I'll take public transportation. Short walk to the bus was a major factor in choosing our house! Husband works at home for now but will do the same if he gets a contract in the city.
We would have been in a world of hurt in WA. A Jeep Wrangler and an older 4Runner, living a 5-mile drive up to 2000 feet elevation from everything. Ouch.
Best,
Kim

Yes, buying that Prius was a great decision! Anyone else thinking of going hybrid? I think the Prius is one of the better looking ones.

I loooooove my Prius. Being the one that does all the household shopping and general errand-running, having a hatchback is SWEET!! And everyone who sits in the back seat comments on how much roomier it is than they expected.
And I'm so spoiled now with the sensor unlocking the car when I touch the handle that I wish my house worked the same way!! LOL!! I suppose it won't be too long down the road...

I have that on my car too! Don't you love it??? It's so nice to not have to hunt for your keys in your purse as you're leaving the store. I tell ya, sometimes it's the little things!!
