Default Christian Song Writer, Singer and Father

My real name is Jordy Christo, I am a Christian song writer, singer and father of three beautiful children. I am the youth worship leader at my church and have the privileged of working with about 10 teenagers. Somewhere in my lists of things to do, I want to actually receive a Dove Award (Christian music award). When I am away from the computer, I usually can be found strumming my Larrivee' acoustic guitar and singing somewhere.

My oldest daughter, now 24 told me the other day that she has memories of hearing me play and sing the guitar downstairs as they were trying to go to sleep upstairs, when they were younger. My father past away when I was 5, so to hear that my daughter has such a great memory of her dad is a wonderful thing.

Life has not always been so wonderful though. About 13 years ago I found myself hitting bottom with an addiction to alcohol. I have been sober for 13 years, thanks to the grace of God. One of the greatest places that my talents are used is in the middle of where hurting people are. Many of them live on the streets. I have the privilege of leading worship services in several places in our area for people who are just beaten down by life.

The gift I have been entrusted with of being a Christian song writer is something that I cherish tremendously, because music is such a powerful thing. Being a father and loving my kids is another blessing that is comparable to none. Having a computer, good friends and a place to just babble ranks pretty high on my list of things I am grateful for too.

Jordy, what a story. I do believe that trials make you stronger and even though you've been through a lot, it's all a part of what makes you strong and grateful for what you have. We're certainly glad to have you here.

Do you also play instruments too? Who does the music for your songs?

Default I play an acoustic guitar

I play an acoustic guitar. I started learning this instrument about 21 years ago. Sometimes there is just no better way to start the day than singing first thing in the morning.

I have a couple of adults that I play music with, an electric guitar player and also a bass player. The recordings that I have were all done by me, totally ammeter stuff but one of my goals is to have a good professional recording made. The songs have touched many people even though the recordings could be better.

Welcome Jordy!
(I'm smiling, because it's only my third post and I'm already welcoming folk like I been here for years....)

This site is most definitely cool and I think we both will learn a ton here! FYI, I'm also a gospel musician....I play keys/piano/organ and direct a choir or two. (No guitar yet, but I'm lookin' to learn it one day...) From one musician to another please allow me to compliment your material. That's some powerfully inspiring stuff and from reading your background and life experience I guess I really cant be too surprised at the quality of the music you produce!

Stay encouraged man, and I'll race you for that Dove award

I appreciate the encouragement!
Maximus, life gets tough sometimes. I try to always focus on the good more than the bad. Playing and singing is one of the best things in my life, I sing everyday. There was a time in my life when I didn't have a song in my heart.

Today my 20 year old daughter got good news, she doesn't have cancer!!! Steven Curtis Chapman's daughter was killed today. One musician is happy another is sad?
We really need to encourage one another! Life just bits sometimes.

O wow. I feel bad. I'll always remember his "I'm Divin' In" song.

BTW, I'm happy your daughter survived.
