Unhappy I need encouragment!!!

Lisa, you can move the following post to wherever you feel it goes. Anyways.

I need a lot of support to create my website, and my family isn't giving me any. In fact, they are bringing me down . My brother couldn't care less, my sister thinks I'm too stupid , my mom doesn't want me to 'wast' my life on 'useless' things and my dad doesn't really help. In fact, I think he might be jealous that I might make more money than him someday . What do I say to them?

I hear this story a lot from people first trying to make money online. The best advice I can give you is to just keep working hard and when your site starts getting traffic, show your parents your traffic stats and explain to them a little bit about how programs like AdSense works. Show them examples of other people making money online.

A lot of those comments come out of lack of knowledge and skepticism of this whole "get rich quick online stuff" - which I can understand because there's a lot of hype out here. But if you just keep working at what you do and show you are progressing that will quiet a lot of the noise. Hang in there!

Default Hold on a second

Archulas,

What is this I'm hearing from someone who's helped ME with my website?

First off, you are the one with the goal of building a site and eventually seeing what it can produce for you. This is your goal and not your family's so of course they're not going to feel the same as you do. And with that, you will have negative comments, lack of support or whatever and that's ok because it's them and it shouldn't be about them, it's about you - so MAKE IT ABOUT YOU.

Since you're not getting support, then don't tell them anything or share anything with them. Sounds like you still live at home, am I correct? And if that's the case, then keep doing what YOU want to do.

Keep in mind that when you build a website, the money is NOT going to happen overnight. It takes TIME and what you put into it. Don't forget that. Having a website is like having your own business and with any business, you're not going to make $ right away.

Keep at it and don't give up, bottom line. If you feel in your heart that building a website is what you wanna do, do it for that reason, for you, for your approval, not for anyone else's approval.

Then in time, you'll see the results and your family will see the results but you need to stop thinking so much of what is NOT happening and make things happen yourself and don't rely on someone else to get you started. Self-motivation!!!!

Thanks for that, Renee. Yes, I do live at home (I'm not that old... yet). My family doesn't really know what is going on, but my sister keeps on peeking at my laptop and seeing me, etc. I'm really close to my family and I really soak in what they say!

I take what you said as a really big:

Its all about YOU!

Thank you everybody for helping me! I've got more than I would have got on a Dr. Phil Show !

You can do anything that you put you mind to.
The ball is in your court.

If I or any other successful webpreneur can do it, then so can you.

I faced this is a LOT in the beginning. Especially because I got started with this back in 1998 when making money online was virtually unheard of by most people. So many people thought I was wasting my time.

I remember being in college (my senior year), I was in the computer labs (not many people had Internet access in their apartments and dorm rooms back then) so I would do all my work in the public labs. My friends thought I was wasting my time and said I should be studying for finals instead of joining these "fly by night schemes." If some of them could only see me now.

Then when I graduated I wasn't the least bit interested in doing anything in my field (Business / Human Resources). All I wanted to do was affiliate marketing even though I was making less than $50/month. And I'm sure that made my parents nervous. Here I was a fresh college graduate and not really interested in doing anything other than "Web stuff" that no one had ever really heard of. But I kept at it. I continued to work my 9 to 5 jobs while working on my sites in the evenings. I just let everyone say what they had to say while I continued to build my business.

So trust me. I know what you're going through. Just keep working hard. And if you are half as much as passionate about Net marketing as I was back then (and still am) then you'll be just fine.

Archulas,

Everyone so far has given you some great advice.

In a situation like this, more than ever, you have to believe in yourself and be confident in your potential to succeed. Many people bring others down for various reasons... but this is the time when you have to stand up strong, not let what others say get to you, and keep moving forward... even when it gets tough.

I think you are doing great and progressing well... keep at it, and you will prove every skeptic wrong!

And of course, stick with us here... and if you feel down about it again, don't hesitate to post another post, and we'll get you back on track!

Some inspiration and encouragement for you

"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."- Steve Jobs (Apple co-founder)

Thought that this may come in handy!

Keep at it Archulas!
