Default Hosting option choices - confusion

I am getting ready to get a hosting plan and have been given 4 different program options. I'm a bit uncertain however what some of the Options mean. Perhaps somebody can help me

The first column is the "option" and the next 3 columns are the "perks" (What each program provides)

I guess my question is what are the options. (Subdomains, alias domains, external domains, what does it all mean)?

External Domains Unlimited Unlimited Unlimited
Subdomains 25 Unlimited Unlimited
Multiple Web Sites -- Unlimited°° Unlimited°°
Alias Domains yes yes yes

Thanks so much for your help!!!

Well I don't know a lot about various hosting options, but I do know what subdomains are, at least.
They would be (for example) www.subdomain.yourweb.com

Default Hosting terms explained.....well sort of!

I'm not real good at explaining this sort of thing but I will give it a bash.

Sub domains is like having an attached blog or web sites to a domain, like you can have a domain about freshwater fishing and then have sub domains for sub topics....that sort of thing.

Sub domains are no big deal as most people probably won't have much of a use for them.

External domains is more important, this means you can host as many domains as you wan't, as many web sites as you want. Although your often limited to the number of wordpress blog as wordpress blogs require a database and there is usually a limit of 100 per average account, so therefore 100 wordpress blogs which is plenty anyway.

Multiple websites, same same I think. It's pretty much the standard that you can use your hosting for a healthy number of sites which is useful if you build web site to order and offer hosting and domain as part of your package.

I'm not sure if Domain Alias is relevant anymore, its pretty much a given.

I think a domain alias corrects the URL to make it look neat, but I think switching the domain name hosting to your actual web site hosting and a re-direct does this.

Clear as mud?

I thought so.....

Hopefully someone that knows how to better explain this will take up where I left off.

Though one thing I have learned to look at prior to signing up is the affiliate arrangement your hosting provider has as maybe some time down the track you might want to earn a few bob by referring the same hosting you actually use.

I'm with Bluehost and they have some weird ideas about the marketing strategy in respect to affiliates, better go with Hostgator, Lisa will second me on this one I think.

I'm currently hosting a single website with "actnowdomains". They are a little pricey - but when I signed up with them almost a year ago - I had NO IDEA what I was doing.

Now that I know a little more then nothing - I want to make sure I am spending my money wisely. I have 3 (or 4) different domains that I need/want to host.

Go for Hostgator.

They are the best and you can check their plans here: http://www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml
