Default Hosting For a Forum

Hello,

I'm thinking about starting a new website. I'm going to run a vBulletin forum. I am thinking that I will have very high traffic within a year. Pretty much the only thing I will be running on the site will be the forum with some mods that could use up bandwidth. I'm just wondering what host everyone thinks would be best for this type of site. I just need a host that will run pretty fast and efficiently and won't have any problems. I was previously with JustHost.com, but now am thinking of trying another host.

Thanks.

Well, if you are looking for a hosting solution to host your forum and you expect a good amount of traffic on your forum then you can opt for a VPS hosting package from a reliable hosting provider. As you will get good amount of visitors on your forum, you can choose a VPS with a good amount of bandwidth.

As you will have full root administrator access to your VPS (confirm with the hosting provider) you will also be able to install the applications you would need. Also, as VPS acts as a standalone server, it is certainly more reliable than a shared hosting package.

Well, I don't think I will go with VPS, but thanks for the suggestions. I think I'm going to go with a more 'mainstream', I guess you would say, host. Probably something like HostGator. I just want something that has good prices too. That's one of the reasons I picked JustHost.com in the first place. Their prices are very good. If I can find a good deal I might start off with something small on like HostGator and then upgrade later if I need to.

Since you are just starting out with your forum, you would be okay to start off with a shared hosting plan. Look for a hosting provider who allows easy upgrades in future when your forum traffic grows and you need more resources.

You are most welcome

You can choose a hosting provider if the hosting provider offers a hosting package according to your requirements and provides good quality support round the clock.

You can surely start with a shared hosting package for now, however, you won't get root access to the server (confirm with the hosting provider) and hence it won't be possible for you to install the applications if you wish to have them on the server.

Also, as Ry@n said, make sure that the hosting provider allows easy upgrade at any point of time so that you can get more resources i.e. disk space and bandwidth in future if required.

I think you should think for lots of other things while hosting a forum. 100% Network Uptime SLA, 24x7 Customer Support are the things you need to think about twice.

24x7 support certainly makes a difference and it is necessary so that you can contact your hosting provider round the clock for any assistance incase of any issues.

If you are starting a new forum, you can start with a shared hosting package and upgrade when your requirements increase in future. You should check if the hosting provider offers easy upgrades. Also, some of the hosting providers will assist you with the installation of the forum application which is definitely good
