Default Wordpress + Domain + Hosting Info

Hope this is the right forum!

As SBI so far is the only platform (domain, hosting etc) that I have used as yet, I am a little confused about all this other stuff. I am considering branching out and trying out wordpress, then I realised - I don't really know what it is!

Can someone help me out here?

    Wordpress is what exactly?
(I have tried reading up about it, but I just don't get the domain and hosting part - In my defence I have the flu!)

I have read a lot of good things about wordpress that is why I am looking into it, I would like to use it to have a static site (ie not blog) is this relatively simple?

If you open hosting account somewhere you can host several sites on the one plan? So is their any hosting recommendations and why?

What about domain registration? Any recommendations?

    Thanks for your time guys!

PS - I hope I haven't worded this to weird, again I will blame the flu for my foggy headedness (Winter blues down here )

There's Wordpress.org and Wordpress.com. Dot org gives you more freedom, but you also have more responsibility, like keeping up with your stats, making changes to your code, etc. Dot com gives you little responsiblity, and limited freedom. ex. You can't advertise there, and it probably isn't the one where you can have multiple sites. Both Dot.com and Dot.org are free.

It's point and click as far as having a static front page. Simple to do.
If you want your own domain name, you get a host. If you don't get your own domain name, then Wordpress's name will show up in your address. The host can register your domain and host your site. I read where Wordpress provides hosting. You could probably search google for Wordpress hosting. Otherwise, go to your host of choice -- preferably one that has one click installation of WP. Life is so much easier if you don't have to manually load the program. (trust me on this...I've spent all night, and part of this morning trying to do what should have a been a simple upgrade). I have had service with Netfirms for years. Very reliable, affordable, and they have one-click installation of WP.org.

Ok...if this sounds off the wall, Ima blame the time of day.

There are many hosting providers out there who allow hosting multiple sites on one plan. This is usually done using the addon domains function within the hosting control panel. So when looking for hosting, make sure you choose a hosting plan which supports hosting several websites.

Ans. Wordpress is basically known as a blog application. It is well known as it is quite easy to use Wordpress and it has a lot of features with a simple interface.

You will need web space i.e. hosting to host your blog. There are many hosting providers with different kind of hosting packages and you can choose one according to your requirements.

Ans. Yes, there are different plans with different hosting providers and you can choose a plan for hosting multiple websites.

I would suggest you to consider a Linux hosting package with cPanel control panel and Fantastico. If you consider a Linux hosting package, you will be able to host multiple websites with it (confirm with the hosting provider). Also, if you get cPanel control panel with Fantastico, you can easily install Wordpress through Fantastico (Again, confirm about it with the hosting provider as different hosting providers offer different features )

    Hope this helps

Wordpress is fantastic! But if you want to get the best out of it you need to know a little, HTML, CSS and basic php. cPanel control with Fantastico is all good but it limits you to only the webhosts that have this function, they might not provide the best service and might not be the most cost effective.

And when it comes to customizing your blog, you can't get better than wordpress. But as I said to make it work for you, you need to know a little code.
