Dialup or Cable or ????
I'm so new I don't even know where to ask what question. Here's one: I have dialup service. A couple of the possible hosting providers I have tried to review have taken forever to load pages. Is that representative of their service or is it the fact that I'm still a stone-age guy in a stone-age service form!? Am I really all right with dialup, if I choose a webhost that has simple options? Oops, that was two questions already.
TIA, even if there isn't an answer.

boccherini, it would be your internet connection. Dialup was the standard 7 years ago and today broadband would be the new standard so many websites are designed for that in mind. Webservers can send webpages down to you at lighting speed, but if your internet connection cant match or beat there connection the you will have cases where pages take forever to load.
I am on wireless broadband connection (it comes into my home as wireless) it is 3mb up and down (nearly 600 times faster) and sometimes I have to wait for pages. But I wait because my connection is to fast.

Web sites are becoming larger nowadays because so many users are on highspeed (broadband). Many times you can right-click a Web page and select properties to view the size of the page. Now this is only the HTML portion you will have to also include the images, which can be very large.
I switch to cable many years ago and it has come in handy, especially when I work from home. I'm kinda spoiled with the 10Mb download speed that I'm getting with my cable provider, which downloads pages in less than a second.

Boccherini,
Personally save yourself the hassle and go with cable it's much faster and it will bring you out of the Stone Age .
Techieguy,
I did right-click on Rooney's Red Sox website page which doesn't give you the properties option button ! Also I did right-click on this page of www.websitebabble.com and all it gave me was misc. properties and text language: english nothing more. Am I missing something??
Peace,

moimoi94, right clicking to get the file size on dynamic websites (.asp / .php / .aspx etc.) doesnt normally work as these sites are stored in server memory alot of the time. Unlike .html they are static and the filesize can be found in the properties.

I agree with everyone else - get rid of dialup. My parents still have it and I have been BEGGING them to switch over. I can't stand using the internet at their house because it takes FOREVER for a page to load (at least compared to my internet).

Sorry Rooney,
You lost me brotha! Are you saying the programming you used is different from this website forum? I think I need to look up what exactly in layman's term does
(.asp / .php / .aspx etc.) mean to me. Static ?

Sorry moimoi94, a static website is one where the content doesnt change and dynamic is one where it changes. They way we class them is if say the sites content is stored in a database, then it is dynamic. This site is dynamic where http://www.2createawebsite.com/ is static.

Rooney,
Huh! Sounds like it makes sense and forgive my ignorance. So because this forum is constantly changing due to members logging in/out and writing messages almost daily- that is dynamic...correct?

Although this forum is dynamic because more posts are added, the actual forum Web pages themselves are static, in that they are HTML pages. The forum actually converts the dynamic content to a static HTML page. When a new post is added, the static HTML page is updated to reflect the change.
This is done by many sites to help get listed in search engines since they can index static HTML pages easier than pages that require parameters.

Oh! I'm sort of pulling it together mentally what you & Rooney are saying although I might have more questions later. Actually now, does it always have to be in Html code ?
Peace,
