Thread: 5 Shades Hosting?

I'm looking around for a possible webhost. Came across this 5 Shades Hosting. It seems pretty awesome from what I can tell. Unlimited space, 1 Free Domain Name for a Year, PHP, MySQL Databases, Autoresponder, 24/7 Phone & Email Support, Scripts for WordPress and a million other things.

And I think it's like $4.95/mo. or something like that.

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this host?

I’m afraid I haven’t heard of them before.

Looking at their website a few things raise alarms in my opinion.

First of all I cannot see any terms of service page or AUP (acceptable usage policy). So you effectively do not know what terms they have and just how much space you get. They say unlimited "GB's" so this leads me to believe they use other ways of limiting the resources you can use such as a limited amount of files per account. Most web hosts do this but all of them have a terms / AUP page to clear up their policies.

Here is the small print they have under their hosting plan.

* Free domain name offer is limited to the initial year of domain name registration and to TLDs priced at $8.95 or less per year.
1 Shared SSL is a single SSL Certificate shared by multiple customers and is not unique per customer.
2$5.95 per month pricing is available with a 24 month prepaid billing cycle.
3Free Sitebuilder is 3 pages. Additional SiteBuilder features and pages available at an additional cost.
4Credit is available to new customers of the respective ad programs.

If you plan on using their site builder they charge after 3 pages. The $5.95 offer is only available if you pay for 2 years hosting in advanced. The problem with that is that if you are not happy with their hosting you are stuck with them for 2 years. It's best to pay monthly.

If your going to be creating a online store and you need a SSL they only offer a "shared ssl". I used one of these for my site and it was as good as useless. Not a problem if your not going to be accepting credit cards on your site.

Hey Thanks Jack for the thoughts on this. I hadn't noticed the lack of Terms. As far as the fine print, I did read that and would be okay with that I think as I'm not planning on an online store and I do plan on having it up for at least 2 years.

Most sites that have the unlimited you will find the limits written in the user license agreement.
In general you are limited to 10% of the disk space for that server, 10% of the ram usage on that server and a predetermined bandwidth limit. The catch in all of this is they never come out and tell you exact sizes so it becomes a guessing game until you reach those limits.
