Question Changing from windows to linux on godaddy

Hi ,

I'm not great at technical stuff so when i was choosing my hosting plan on godaddy i opted for windows because i thought that was the right option for me to select because i'm using vista . since then i've watched many people doing demo videos and I have come to realise that their hosting selection hasn't got much to do with the kind of operating system they have on their desktops or laptops .

I was looking into installing joomla as a cms application on my godaddy hosting account and I'm not able to select the option of installing it even though i have a deluxe hosting plan . I do believe it is because i selected that windows option when i was choosing my hosting plan .

please correct me if i am wrong . on the other hand can anyone please tell me step by step how i can change my hosting plan back from windows to linux in my existing godaddy hosting account ?????

i can't find any tutorial videos on this anywhere .

all help is appreciated . thanks

Thumbs up it's ok i found info on this after reading a lot of hits on google

if you accidentally selected Windows hosting when you purchased a
hosting plan, remember that you can always change it to a Linux hosting account: in My Hosting Account click on the
domain name, in the right menu Hosting Account Details you can select the option Switch Operating System:thu mbsup::thu mbsup::thu mbsup:

Thumbs up quick recap

i was on godaddy there and i followed their step by step instructions in their help panel which i found to be more useful than my first set of info .

here are the steps .

To Switch Your Hosting Account Operating System
Log in to your Account Manager.
In the My Products section, select Hosting.
Click on the name of the hosting account whose operating system you want to change.
In the Account Details section on the right, click Upgrade/Downgrade Hosting Account.
In the Select New Plan section, select a new hosting plan. You can also upgrade your bandwidth (additional data transfer) and disk space at this time.
Click Continue.
If your new hosting plan is an upgrade from your existing plan, proceed through the purchase process. Otherwise, click Save Changes.
This change may make take up to 72 hours depending on the size of the site, the number of databases and other factors that may increase the complexity of the migration. You will receive a email message when we complete your upgrade.

Bob is right . make sure you have a back up of everything .
