cheap php hosting
I would like to host my site, I have seen many hosting review sites.....I have noticed that (LINK REMOVED) giving in depth knowledge on hosting companies and hence it did not take me long to decide. It is the best review site I have so far seen. I would welcome any suggestion and help.
Thanks,
ronaldo

I''l just let you know in advance that (as far as I know) most people on this forum use and recommend HostGator
You should check out some of their packages on their website.
Good luck!

I really don't understand what's so good about hostgator.
You have to buy that domains, plus the plans are SUPER expensive.
1and1 is overall a better webhost

Yeah but can you call 1and1 and get a human being on the 2nd or 3rd ring like you can with Hostgator? Their support is UNBELIEVABLE. I don't mind paying a little more for that. There was a time when 2Create was down because I had some wrong code in my .htaccess file. I called HostGator at 2am in the morning, got a human being on the 2nd ring and fixed the issue in a matter of seconds. No phone trees, no waiting, no annoying on-hold music. Terrific!

that does sound enticing, but i wouldnt pay alot for customer service
i usually just shoot them an e-mail and go to sleep and get a response the next time i check, which is perfect.
and i really dont like their plans
the 1and1 pro plan is unbeatable

Always read the fine print
You get what you pay for, usually, but sometimes less.
A person needs to evaluate what their needs are. Sure hosts like 1and1 have low priced options, but they offer NO php on the least expensive plan, for example. The plan they recommend for a small business (anything more than hobby use) is $9.99 per month. Not really cheap and no where near their $3.99 per month, sign up the beginner on a limited potential, plan to draw in new customers.
My host is Dreamhost and after using them a couple of years I signed up for a long term contract and got a rate of $5.99 per month. For this I have almost unlimited everything and support for all the programming needs I can anticipate needing. My main reason for going with them was the variety of options available. I didn't really know enough to know I would want php so soon, for example, but I am glad I didn't have to switch hosts or pay more than expected to get it.
Just think about what you need and pick a host with a good reputation. Plan for what you may want in the way of service, more than saving a dollar or two (not that you don't want to get the best deal you can). If an inexpensive plan on 1and1 is all you need, OK. But I would just be careful to "read the fine print".

Right.
Right you are. I apologize for that mistake. All of their programs do support php, but not other languages such as Perl and evidently only Perl and Python scripting languages are supported even in their more expensive programs. It seems probable that you would have to move to another host if you wanted to use other scripting languages like Ruby as some members of our forum do.
The 1and1 entry price does limit you to only 10G of space, 300G/mo transfer, and perhaps more important to many, excludes Server Side Includes (SSI). Also, you can have only 1 ftp, etc. Of course, you can pay more and get more for most of these.
But let me say, I am not trying to suggest that 1and1 might not be OK for any individual. People just need to check out what they need for their work first of all, then what they are getting for their money and how much it takes to upgrade. Then it is good to get some references such as you have given for them here. I would trust recommendations from a forum like this one far over hosting review sites which are often not unbiased/independent reviews as they claim.
In the case of 1and1 it is clearly stated on their site that even the second level hosting plan is only adequate for "family or hobby sites" and that "small to medium business sites" should expect to need the third level plan which costs $9.99. The kind of site you have and the traffic you expect, as well as amount of downloads, video, etc., can dramatically affect these expectations.

We are using GoDaddy and Inmotionhosting - for me they are the best.

Try ultrasurge (google ultrasurge). They are cheap. I used to use it for my personal hosting.

Cheap Hosting...
If you decide to go for the cheapest hosting you can find you WILL regret it! Just ask me; I've had plenty of cheap hosts and plenty of problems... Get a reputable host like HostGator or GoDaddy and you won't be disappointed.

Not everyone needs 2nd ring telephone support, etc, some people just need that space to host their scripts, test site, etc...
i've been using Yakkel since about summer-time and their support is awesome, always helpful/prompt, and uhm the best thing is it's free.. take the word free as you like, but it's definitely the best host i've ever used.
:i won't link to it since i'm new, surely someone has heard of them. Yakkel.
