Default Looking for the best , most versatile , reliable and easy to use webhost

Hi

As I said in my title . I am trying to find the best , most versatile , reliable and easy to use web host.

I am a very artistic, and creative person , and I am looking for a web host that offers a lot of these type of features.? (I own Front page but I do not find it all that easy to use).

At present I am with a company called SBI or site build it - . They are a good company, but cost $300 per year, and as I am going to be making up another site & I would like to use another web host that costs a lot less per year, but has similar functions or better.

I have also heard that it is advisable to buy your domain name from a separate source.
Are there any companies that any of you can recommend ?

A company that offers Web management services ?

If possible I would like a web host that will submit to search engines & advertise my site ? (some companies do that for you - or at least they say they do) ?

Talking about the amount of web space & bandwidth one needs ?" what is the largest amount of each a website would ever possibly need ? (lets say for a 100 page website).

Also a web host that has fairly straightforward & easy to use web building software.

Putting it all in a nutshell. “ I am looking for, the easiest and on the whole best way of putting up a website “.
Any feedback would be great .

Thank you Craig ... ...

Hey Craig,

There are no absolute best webhosts out there because we all use them for different purposes. It would be hard to give you an absolute answer when the majority of us have only exprimented with a few hosts.

I think it’s best to determine what you'll need for your next website and what you want from your host.

In terms of buying a domain I used www.godaddy.com and I've been very satisfied with their service.

For my host I use www.hostgator.com. Very easy to use and they have very affordable service.

Besides Sitebuild it I don't know of any reliable host that will advertise your website. This is something you'll probably have to learn to do on your own if you decide to create away from Sitebuild it

As for Webspace and Bandwidth, it really depends on what you’re planning to do with your website. If you check out Lisa’s website she does a great job of presenting some reliable hosting plans. Most people don’t need to worry about web space unless you plan to have a lot of videos. Apparently www.powweb.com gives you unlimited Bandwidth and Web space and their plan comes with a domain name.

As you see you've got me babbling... but to answer your question the easiest way for you to put a website up (in my opinion) would be to get a domain from godaddy (or any other similar domain vendor) and then host with hostgator

Check out Lisa's website you'll be surprised as how well she simplifies everything http://www.2createawebsite.com/

Ps. I like your website on Victoria BC. I'm planning on going to Vancouver next summer for 4 months so I'll make sure to bookmark you website for future reference

I have just signed up with BlueHost, but use GoDaddy to manage my domain names.

BlueHost was easy to setup, and includes unlimited transfer and space.

I hav eonly been with them for about two weeks, so I can't really give a full review yet.

I started with a hosting company called IX Web Hosting and they do one thing that makes my life so much easier as a designer/developer. They allow me to create sub domains. Why is that so cool you ask? Because I can create development areas for each project I'm working on and the client can check it out whenever they wish and comment on it.

I do .Net for all of my development and one of the draw backs I've come across is that you can't have multiple websites on the same domain. Or at least I haven't figured out how. So now all I do is create a clientname.chesapeakebaywebsites.com sub domain and let the client know the address and tada!

The other thing I like about them is that they support using SQL Server management console rather than making you use some limited html page to submit queries, etc.

In my opinion they rock.

Default Unlimited domains.

Unlimited subdomains are good. Unlimited domains is better. I use Dreamhost and only have experience with it and one other I won't name. It has a good reputation but after a while I found that even my limited demands ran into a road block.

It is more important to have flexibility in the use of installs like Wordpress, etc., and provision for resources like php and MySQL in my opinion. But while having subdomains is ok, Dreamhost (which I use), and I know some others, offer unlimited domains as well.

I host the Douglas County Master Gardeners (in signature) on my domain hosting program, for example, and no one could even tell. It has its own domain name entirely.

unlimited domains is almost always in there

u still have to buy the domains

but they'll host it

and you still have to stay inside your hosting disk space limit

Since I move domains names around quite a bit, I try to keep them all at GoDaddy, makes it easy to have them all in one place. I would suggest that you look around for a coupon code before you buy the domain name. GoDaddy is expensive without using some type of incentive.

As far as hosting goes their are several quality discount hosts out there. Personally I use HostGators swap plan and a semi plan from http://www.downtownhost.com/ mainly for testing etc.

It all boils down to your personal preference when choosing a host. Take time with this decision as you do not want to pick one the want to move in a month or so. It can be a real headache.
