Default List of Hosts on a review site, your suggestions of the good and the not-so-good?

Hello everyone, relatively new here. Asked a similar question in the "thinking about / advice" section but here we go. I found I review site that had the following web hosts rated from 1 to 10, with one being the highest. A number of folks here told me that Bluehost and Hostgator are popular, but what about these others?

    1. Host Papa
    2. Ipage
    3. Hostgator
    4. 1@1
    5. Justhost
    6. Go Daddy
    7. Yahoo
    8. Blue Host
    9. Arvixe
    10. Fatcow

That is the order the review site had them in, with which site was trending up or down and the number of positives and negatives. Anyone's thoughts? Thanks for the help and information.

You have to be careful with review sites. From what I have seen, most of them promote sites that they have affiliations with so you can't really get an un-biased opinion...

When it comes to hosting, they're all gonna be about the same. It all comes down to what you will get and how much it will cost. I favor hosts that provide you with a cPanel because that's what I am familiar with. Some hosts like Dreamhost and GoDaddy use their own administration software but I have never experienced it so I can't say if it's good or bad.

Many review sites get hung up on "tech support" but when it comes down to it, if the host is any good, you won't really ever need any tech support. HostGator has gone through some changes lately since they were bought up. They used to have fantastic tech support but if you read through some of their forum you'll find complaint after complaint about poor tech support. I guess with over 6 million customers you'd expect some issues, but there again; if your infrastructure is sound, support shouldn't be an issue. Poorly run networks result in support requests...

I myself pay a premium for hosting. I use LiquedWeb and have a VPS that hosts all of my sites. Sure, it may cost a bit more, but their network is sound and I have never even had the need for tech support. I guess in the end, you get exactly what you pay for.

I guess of all the hosts you've listed, I'd choose HostGator simply because they have the biggest share of shared hosting accounts. You can always start there just to learn and move on any time you feel ready. There's nothing saying that once you start you're locked in for life....

Just stick with Hostgator or Bluehost.

Godaddy is great as a domain name registrar but I don't like their hosting packages. Never heard of most of the others.
