Unhappy Web Hosting and Email Question

I started a forum a while back that ranked #1 on Google for the phrase, "make money working on your computer" but it's dropped since then.

The site was PHPBB based and my host was Godaddy. I had a 1Gig email account for this forum through GoDaddy but found that my inbox filled up in a matter of days. Does anyone know of a better approach to keeping in touch with my forum members? What should I do? I want for my domain name to be in the email address that my members send email to. Thanks.

What emails went into you inbox to fill it up to 1GB in a couple days? If your forum is automatically emailing you, I'm sure you can turn off the automatic emails. Or are all the emails from forum members emailing you manually?

I was new to the PHPBB3 interface and my permissions were set to have admins activate all accounts. (changed that) When the site shot up to #1 I got about 1000 emails from my board to activate accounts. The emails being sent to me were being forwarded to my gmail account, but I haven't looked to see if they are still being forwarded to that address. They may be. I'll keep you posted.

I see. I guess that's a good problem to have. I would think 1,000 emails would take up 1GB but maybe.

If it was me, I would just get a larger email account or change the settings to not email for every new account. A lot of forums juts do an email authorization email but don't require admin approval. That seems to be the way to go. Maybe some other forum admins can comment.

I've edited the permissions on the message board already and now members activate their own accounts. I was experimenting due to all of the SPAM on the board. Couldn't keep up with it... Anyway, I'm currently working on other projects. Being an admin is really hard work it seems. Maybe I'm not cut out for the task. I've considered seeking moderators, but do others really want to deal with what I'm going through?

It depends how much you're willing to pay Unfortunately, you're ranked in a pretty spammy niche. It's tough to start a new forum that is popular and well-managed in that niche I bet.

Yes it is. I'm taking another approach currently. I'm starting a series of book review websites. I just wanted to see if I could rank #1 for the phrase(primarily for bragging rights!!!) and did for a short time. I did it to test myself and prove to my family that I'm on my way. In the process, I learned something!

That means you are doing good. There are good niches which can make a lot of money and keep on experimenting.

Regarding the email box, 1000 mails taking 1 GB mean that each of them and 1 MB size, which is unlikely if there is no attachment. If it is just automated messages from forum, 20, 000 messages or more would go into 1 GB mail box. So that is something you need to check, if the problem is not yet solved.

Using a more powerful forum like vb is recommended if you are serious about the work.

Not sure about PHPBB, but if you send emails from a noreply address using PHP mail any replies will not go into an inbox.

Umm I think he was just spamming his keywords?
