Default Which Host is Better?

Is Hostgator better than GoDaddy? And can you really host unlimited sites for one low price?

I personally think it's better. You can host unlimited sites as long as you stay within your bandwidth and disk space limits. Plus GoDaddy doesn't have cPanel.

I do use godaddy for one site of mine but that is only because of the large bandwidth limits they have. I have not used hostgator but I am sure they are great.

I host all the rest of my sites with another host/reseller that does have cpanel and I love it! cPanel should be the standard, somebody should tell 1and1 that and their admin section stinks, I have a friend who uses them and I would stay away.

Default hostgator

I have hosted with hostgator for over 2 years and the service is great. Do note that the unlimited websites under their shared plans means only sites that you own. If you are charging others for the hosting, you have to have a reseller plan as it is against their TOS to do that.

I would stay as far away from godaddy as possible. They will steal your domain if you forget to renew it within 15 days and auction it off! A company that does that is not one wanting to foster a good business relationship with their client.

I am interested in a domain that has expired on July 19 and it still shows it is still taken... What do I do... I am having a bad time with figuring out 1 and 1 and thinking to slide to gator...

Hey eagle,

why are they great? Well I can't remember the last time there was any downtime, its been at least a year (I have outside monitoring of my site to be sure). Since you got me thinking about it, I checked and yes it was june of last year there was a 30 minute outage. If there has been downtime since, it was just for reboots and was never noticed (less than 10 minutes) I am pleased with their support, it's not Fantastic but it is good. The servers are fast and support replies are generally quite prompt.

A normal registrar has a 30 day domain expiration period and a 40 day redemption period (i may have those periods reversed) but either way you have to wait at least 70 days before the domain is released to the public. I think it can take up to another 5 days for the registrar to process the release of the domain as well, so it can take up to 75 days. That is the proper process. Now if the domain is registered with godaddy they might try and auction it off after 15 days so check that out. Otherwise if you REALLY want to get it, I would recommend using something like pool.com to automatically try and register it for you once it is released. It costs more but will make sure you get the domain. If you just kinda sorta want it, then try checking everyday after the 70 day period to see if it is available for registration. Of course the person who owns the domain may choose to renew it before their expiration period is up and then you have to wait another year

I've never used 1 and 1 but have read a number of negative reviews of their service. They are so big though that i am sure there are lots of people that are happy with them.

hope that helps.

i don't see why not. Do note that you will only be able to install one instance of wordpress through fantastico, if you want to create other sites that use wordpress you would need to install it manually.

Regards

john

Login to your hosting account yourdomain.com/cpanel and you'll see an icon called "Fantastico". From there you'll be able to install wordpress.
