Default Why Hostgator not in Lisa's Comparison

Hey Lisa,

I went to your comparison page for web hosting and you had 4 sites you were comparing. I noticed that hostgator was not on there but on your how to create a blog you say that is the one you use. Is there a reason it was not included in the comparison? Is it not a very good options?

I need a host that will allow me several domains. Also I would like to have a host that is Rapidweaver friendly! Any suggestions?? Thanks for the help.

I cant answer for Lisa but I had a horrific experience with Host Gator. Their Customer Service was horrible. You would have to call 4 different numbers just to reach the right person. Many times, when you actually could speak to someone, their favorite answer was "I dont know." The suprise...I was asking them questions about their own website builder. In addition, you have to go to 4 different sites to do your business, which was wierd considering you would think a business would make all their products linked to one site.

Finally, I cancelled my web builder subscription and transfered my domain to Godaddy.com. The have friendly customer service and are very helpful. Also, check out SBI. Depending on what type of site you are building, you may find it very useful. I am about finished with my first site, using godaddy and I plan to use SBI for a very large project I have been working on for the past year.

If I am rambling, I appologize. I just woke up and still trying to shake the cobwebs lol.

I just need to update my site. I originally used Powweb to host 2create but heard Hostgator was good for blogging so I switched in the past few months and never updated that page. I need to switch though because Hostgator pays better commissions! LOL

But if you are hosting several domains definitely choose Hostgator. Powweb does not offer this option.

Flavel, I'm sorry you had a horrible experience with HostGator. You're the first person I've ever heard to say anything negative about it.

Hi as for me I love hostgator and the only reason why I will use another hosting company is if they do not have what will host one of my many sites. The major reason why I love them is they are 24/7 and I can chat with technical support at any time of the day.

Maybe, I just talked to the wrong people a couple of times. I am building a site on poker and I was going to use their website builder. I had a hard time trying to figure out how to use it. I called and the person who I spoke with appeared bored with my questions and was kinda rude.

Did you build your sites using Hostgators website builder? If so, how do you like it and how would you compare it to godaddy?

Unfortunately many hosting support people don't know the specifics when it comes to creating very specific functionality for websites. Not excusing their behavior but I've found this to be true in most instances.

For a poker site you cannot use software, you'll need a programmer or find a script online that you can learn to install. To be honest I didn't even know HostGator had software. I use Dreamweaver. Nevertheless, you'll need a programmer for any kind of gaming/interactive site.

Hehe...I am a computer dunce to be honest. Most of what I have learned is from this website. My poker site is just an informational site. There is and never will be any gambling on it. Basically, I am teaching people how to play different games, writing poker articles about strategy and giving detailed information about the poker rooms at the casinos in Tunica Ms. I only have around 30,000 sites to compete with lol.

I am using godaddy website tonight and it is ok for a basic site, especially when it is your first time.

Lisa, how difficult is it to use Dreamweaver or Coffee cup. Do you need to learn HTML? If so, what is the best way to learn HTML?

Thanks for your time...

Oh I see. I've found that using templates is what helped me learn how to use web editing programs. But the good thing is there are tons of free tutorials all over the web (especially Dreamweaver). I'll admit. DW has a lot going on and it can be intimidating at first. It was for me. But once I got a template that's what really made me dive in and learn the program.

Default Powweb Doesn't Have the ability to host multiple domains

Lisa,

I have powweb hosting my site and they sent me an email asking if I wanted to create another site at a reduced price. If they don't host more than one domain why would they sent that email.

Thanks,

Tom
