Question Going from domain name to hosting to website?

If anyone can offer any clarity to my situation I will gladly welcome;

I recently purchased a domain name through 'Website Palace' with the aim of creating a website, I then hosted this domain with website palace as per their instuctions but now can't seem to find a way to create a website with them.
What am i doing wrong?
I freely admit that i know very little about hosting/creating a website.
I have no problems with paying for either, I just don't know what to do now.

Do website palace actually create websites?
If not, will I need to cancel hosting my domain name at website palace in order to create a website with someone else?

I am in contact with their technical support people but am having trouble making myself understood as I am probably not using all the right terms, and the instructions they give me don't match with what is on my screen.

I would very much like to be pointed in the right direction.
Thank you to anyone who can help.

Hi! Rae,

Welcome to Website Babble!

I will explain the entire process of creating a website in a nutshell.

1) Register your domain.

2) Buy hosting. They will provide you with nameservers, ftp acc and other details.

3) Login to the website where you registered your domain and change the nameservers to the ones given by your webhost.
#Since you are with websitepalace I assume they will handle everything for you till now#

4) Now you need a software to create your website in html and another software (ftp client) to upload the files to your webhost.

There are many free software creation software like Chami HTML kit, NVU, etc. Some of the paid ones are Dreamweaver (The current market leader), MS Frontpage, Sitespinner, etc. You have to create your pages using any of these software and save the files on your local computer.

As for as ftp is concerned, I would recommend filezilla. It is an open source project and is free. However, some of the html programs I mentioned above contain an inbuilt ftp client to streamline the process of publishing your website.

Hope I have made the process clear.

Type the domain name of your website in your browser. What do you see?
Do you see any default page or a directory like structure? If so you have to upload your site to your webhost.

Please let us know if you have any problems.

Hi Rae,

What hosting package did you choose? Did you choose Website Tonight or one of the regular hosting packages? If you chose Website Tonight then no software is needed. You just login to your account and choose "Website Tonight" under the hosting area and begin building your site using the provided templates.

If not, I would highly recommend you get some HTML software. As ncaditya said, Nvu is one of the best and most common now. I use FrontPage but Microsoft no longer supports it becuase of Vista's new publisher so I am slow to recommend them now.

Hey Rae,

Welcome to websitebabble forums.

If you're comfortable with HTML or don't mind learning it to build your website then i would recommend you download a free HTML software and read some HTML tutorials before getting started. You can try the software ncaditya and lisa recommend.

Rae, if i may ask you, what kind of website are you looking to make? What is it going to be about? What do you want your site look like? This way we can better help you with things you may need to create your site.
