I'm thinking about getting a wordpress.com blog set up for a few months to test a topic idea out, and then switching to a real domain if the topic idea works. Is there a way to go from wp.com to a regular domain without losing all the backlinks?
In your dashboard of wordpress.com blog, go to "Manage" and then click on "Export" - you will be able to save an XML file (to your hard drive) of all your blog entries, comments, links, etc.
Then log into your blog on your blog hosted on your own domain, and go to Manage >> Import
You will see a number of options, click on "Wordpress" and browse to find the XML file saved on your hard drive, and voila!
Let me know if you run into trouble.
