Default Have to wait 60 days before hosting can host???

I talked to powweb and they say I have to wait 60 days before i can move my domain name to their hosting service. This is unreal, why even bother buying a domain name and having another place host it if I have to wait 60 days. I unlocked it, un-privatized it, and now they say I have to wait 60 days.

Hello James,

Thank you for getting back to us.

I have noticed that you have unlocked the domain name. However, it is registered on October 15, 2009. Hence, you need to wait until 60 days to transfer the domain to us.

In order to know the requirements regarding registrar transfer of the domain, please visit the link at:

It is quite common for there to be periods where a domain name cannot be transferred from one registrar to another. Usually this is around registration/renewal.

You can still use the domain though, just change the name servers to point to your hosting. There is no need to transfer a domain in order to use it with your website. You may need to wait up to three days for the domain to propagate across the net, although it usually happens much quicker.

If you really want your hosting provider to be your domain registrar, you can transfer it at a later date.

Right... as Coder said, this is common for new domain registrations, but you can just update the name servers if you move the site to a new server. I had to do the same thing when I moved my SBI site.

Yeah this a great share. I didn't think it would take that long.

This certainly is very strange. In any case I'm a firm beliver of keeping domains seperate from hosting. You may end up moving web hosts frequently for many reasons since it changes so quickly. But with a domain name you can just buy it and forget about it.

Hi James,

Let the domain be with your existing registrar, update the name servers so that your website will get live. You can transfer it at a later date.

There must have been some misunderstanding. You don't need to move (transfer) your domain in order to use their hosting service.
