You can use any font you like in images, but when it comes to text you should stay with the standards. The reason for this is because the font will need to exist on the visitor's computer in order for it to be displayed properly. If it doesn't exist, another font from the visitor's computer will be used.

You should stay with the more common fonts usually found on computers to ensure your site is displayed properly.

It is possible to use any font, that font will be automatically installed to visitors computer.. User will be notified that site wants to install something to his computer and must agree.

Also I think it is possible to just upload font to same dir as page and with some script you can make the page use it. But I dont remember what code it was.

Generally sites which use some X-fonts look ugly anyway..

You need to also think about the end user.

If your visitors can't read your fonts, they'll end up leaving. Make sure if you use a weird font that you actually sit down and try to read it. Is it hard to read? Does it make your eyes ache?

I know how the creativity bug hits when you're building a site, but you must always remember who it's for, your visitors.

I think Clinic is right, you can cache your font in someone's computer without active-x or other related installs but simple fonts are always better for the content, though I like it in headers or footers or even logos.
