Default Is a Web Design Certificate Necessary?

I wasn't sure where to post this, so I just put it here.

I've been dabbling in Web Design for a little bit. Nothing real serious, but I did some work for few family/friend business and am thinking about getting into it as a serious business. Anyway, I was wondering if it is necessary or worthwile to get some sort of Web Design/Development certificate or degree. Thanks.

I think it depends on if you plan on getting a full-time job as a Web designer for a company. It may look good on a resume. But if you are just going to design sites for friends, family, locally, etc. I'm not sure if it's really needed.

And I just realized after re-reading that you said you want to do this for a serious business. (Sorry it's been a long day. LOL)

Are you wanting the certificate because you want the formal training or are you asking because you think it may look more professional to your clients?

I guess my question is does it give you credibility? Or does it give you more credibility than just having done good work in the past? And do potential clients look for that?

It can never hurt to get some Web design education. It would help you to get started in designing Web sites. In the end I find that continually designing Web sites is a good way to learn it.

I think the credibility will come as you design more sites. If you have happy clients with very well designed sites then you will earn credibility. Your portfolio in the end can make or break you.
