Question HomeSite or Dreamweaver?

I hear a lot of people recommending Dreamweaver for site design. I'm thinking of transferring from FrontPage and I noticed I don't hear much about HomeSite anymore. Do people not use it as much or is it for more hard-core coders?

Just curious before I make the purchase. Thx.

It's been a while since I've used Homesite but if I remember correctly one distinct difference between the two was that you cannot edit in "design" mode in Homesite but you can in Dreamweaver. And if you're a beginner you may want the option to be able to edit in either mode. Homesite is often best for programmers because you always work directly in the code.

Of course it has been years since I've used Homesite so maybe it's changed.

I just looked up HomeSite and it is still around. As before, it only has the code interface no WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get), like Dreamweaver.

Adobe owns both Dreamweaver and HomeSite since they bought Macromedia.

If you prefer to work with straight HTML code you may want to look into HomeSite as it is probably cheaper. If you want the WYSIWYG editor then you may want to go with Dreamweaver.

Because so many recommended it I have just started using Dreamweaver and if you are a newbie like me I would highly recommend it. Never used Homesite but I'm happy with Dreamweaver. I'm just learning CSS and Dreamweaver is helping me get a grasp on that.

I'm using the MX version. Don't have CS3.

I will take Dreamweaver 8 any day. Microsoft brought out Expression Web in place of Frontpage, but Dreamweaver 8 is more powerful.

What I like about Dreamweaver

* is the ability to search for any code on the current page or the entire website on all the webpages.

* It also has a built in W3C validator built in. You can code and check if it is W3c compliant

*It is very usefull for PHP and ASP integration

I can go on and on, but let me cut it short

Default Homesite

I have an old copy of Homesite which must be 8 years old or something by now. I still use Homesite as it's very easy to use and especially good for programming ColdFusion.

Well, I've been using Dreamweaver MX studio edition for the past couple of years and it's been a really useful tool. I recommend it to the majority of people I know who are trying to get into starting web design because it gives you plenty of room to grow via applications & userability.

It's what I base all of my projects on.
