Default Rewriting existing site question

Hi,

I am brand new to this site as well as to creating my own website. I have an existing one which is terrible and I'd like to completely revamp it but keep the domain name. I have no way to get into the existing site. Anybody have any ideas?

Many thanks!
Betsy

Hi Betsyde,

Do you know what company hosts your site? First thing you need is the username and password to your web hosting account. That will allow you to get the tools and info you need to update your site.

Lisa - is that you answering? Whoever it is, thank you!!!! The host company is Simple Online Solutions. I have the username and password. I didn't create the site but I do own the domain name.

Thanks so much for guiding me...

Yes, it's me.

OK great. Login to your web hosting company and see if you can setup an FTP account. This allows you to download/upload your website files.

Now, do you have any web editing software to use? It's not a necessity but a big help if you're new.

Nvu and Komposer are two free editors you can download.

http://www.kompozer.net/

Let me know if you can do this before I continue...

lisa,

You would make a great salesperson and I can say *sorry*, I haven't been to any of your other sites yet because I found this one straightly from Google so to me you were just another admin. Folks seem to have a lot of respect for you and I see now why, because you make the effort to help people and go beyond by providing extra useful information.

I'll have to check your sites in depth to capitalize from your expertese.

Thank you and no apologies needed. I just like helping people as much I can and this forum gives me another outlet to do so.

Hi Lisa!

You're an angel! I will work on this over the weekend. I may qualify for the number one computer dummy, but I'm determined to figure this out!

Thanks for your website and your help!!!!
