Megzie,

It seems like you've already purchases a domain name and a hosting package from www.websitepalace.com. That's usually the first step in putting a website together, so NO you don't need to buy another website. All you need now is an HTML editor like Dreamweaver. You will need to log into your newly purchased hosting account and set up an FTP so you can log in with your editor. Then you can start creating your pages to your liking and upload it to the site.

Now, if all of this sounds like gibberish to you, then you may want to hire a web designer. Someone with some knowledge of FTP, hosting, dreamweaver, etc.

You also mentioned that you want, a message board, a chat room, forum and a blog. Now those elements work best on a linux server so make sure you check to see if you have windows or linux in your hosting package.

Lisa is the one who runs this forum and she owns website palace. If you email her, i'm sure she can offer you some more detailed advice to get you started.

I hope this helps

Hi Megzie,

Do you have any web software? I'd hold off on the forum just yet. No point in building one without any traffic to your site.

No problem. OK so you registered your domain at websitepalace. Great, did you select a web host or did you only register the domain?

OK, now you need a web host. The domain is just the address of your site. The host is what gives you the space to create your pages and publish them to the Net. At websitepalace there are two different kinds. There's basic hosting (See "Web Hosting" tab and it starts at $3.99/month) With this plan it's best to have some kind of web software.

But since you don't, you may want to look into Website Tonight. (It's under the "Build a Site" tab) No software is needed and you simply pick your design and add your text and pictures. It's all browser based and you can update your site from anywhere and no prior website building knowledge needed.

One downside to Website Tonight is that you're limited with flexibility and you don't have the freedom to manipulate your template and layout as much as you would with a regular host.

My advice would be to download Nvu (free) or buy CoffeeCup or Dreamweaver and familiarize yourself with some kind of web building software. Because you're going to need this to create your pages unless you write HTML from scratch (not recommended for beginners)

Then you can choose the basic and most economical Web hosting plan at websitepalace ($3.99/month) and you'll have the flexibility to do whatever you want with your site. Yes, some learning is involved but that's whatcha gotta do if you want the freedom to do what you wish with your site.

The Site Wizard has a series of NVU tutorials that start here. You can use those to get familiar with NVU.

You might also want to read up on CSS (cascading style sheets). Using CSS makes building a site much easier because any template changes you make will be made on all your pages, which will save you from having to change every page when you want to make a change to your template.

I agree with Theresa, you may want to seek out some Nvu tutorials. I've never used Nvu and publish my site through Dreamweaver. You also may want to look for some free CSS templates you can open in Nvu. Go to www.freecsstemplates.org for some free ones.
