Zen cart is equivalent to Oscommerce, has probably as many mods, and a strong base. I tend to like VIP Cart because its search engine friendly and spiders every page. Its one of the ones that we promote but its limited on gateways, although it does take authorize.net. I like Oscommerce because it integrates with payjunctions gateway which is another one we promote, but aside from that I like it cause it handles things like recurring billing, and you have the option of buy buttons or the cart. If you only use paypal one is about as good as the other, but I am usually working with folks who want to take credit cards, so to me, it boils down to what gateways. Oscommerce is the most flexible when it comes to gateways, and that is very important. Even if you think you'll never take credit cards, you just don't know when you'll want to expand, and Oscommerce has the flexibility for all of them without any additional programming, which can get expensive and is time consuming when trying to get the api to integrate if you don't have the knowledge yourself. You might as well take a free shopping cart with all the mods and the most flexibility.
