Default Buying a dreamweaver template

Hi,

I'm about to buy this template from thetemplatestore:

http://www.thetemplatestore.com/drea...lcreampopouts/

It's $35.00

Any last minute suggestions? How about the price? It's not a ripoff is it?

Cheers,
Gigababbler

Hey Gigababbler,

That is a very fair price for that template. It includes the css as well as the template files and images, png's, etc. I would say it is a great deal, especially for anyone that doesn't know how to create this from scratch.

Go for it!

Default A good deal?

Gigababbler

Since I don't buy templates except for html email (email readers are quirky and I don't want to waste my time learning otherwise hacky code) I can't tell you about usual costs, but if you have looked around you should be able to tell that. I can tell you that the layout--link buttons, design, etc.--are not especially easy and I wouldn't want to do the work of making it for $35.00.

I can tell you this. If you look in the lower left corner of the template you will notice the w3c xhtml and css validation. That tells you that the coding passes the relevant tests, being validated as meeting the highest standards for laying out web pages. There can be no errors at all in the coding to meet that standard. In short, this is a very good template.

The real question then is whether you like the looks of the template. Personally, if I weren't a fanatic about doing everything for myself (sorry Lisa, I know you are doing it the "right" way) I would be very attracted to this one. It looks appealing.

Good Success!

James

I agree. That looks to be a decent price. I've bought many templates from thetemplatestore over the years and have always been happy with them.

Personally, I wouldn't pay for a layout. First of all if you do it yourself you know how it works and you can customize it further with ease later on when you need. Secondly you don't need to pay. And I also just like to learn how to do stuff and how different things work. Actually same things in mind. So I can later on create custom stuff, and I don't need to pay anyone to do it for me.

But you are not me, so it might not apply to you and you would rather like everything done fast and simple not struggle at first and be independent later on.
If I find anything too time consuming or hard to learn I always look for alternative ways rather than hiring someone to do stuff for me (Or buy things). Alternatives usually are Open-Source people. And people who are nice enough to give their work away free, like templates.
So that is exactly what I would suggest you to do. Simple search like "Free Dreamweaver Layouts" will probably give you tons of sites with all kinds of templates. For free.

The template you have chosen is also rather simple. So you shouldn't have much trouble finding same type of layout for free. Only made by someone else.

I would also like to point out that in many cases Open-Source is even better than commercial products. As they are community driven, made by people like you who know exactly what you want.

I tried to purchase the template, but thetemplatestore don't accept echecks and I don't have a credit card. Looks like i'm outta luck...

Anyone know of a template store that accepts echecks from paypal?

Default Credit card alternative

Gigababbler,

How about getting a friend to pay for you when you order. You should be able to order in your name and email address but with the alternate's card info OK. If you know someone who would do it, that should work.

I recommend no one have credit cards unless they pay off any personal purchases monthly, but if you can handle that perhaps you should consider getting one. You can save a lot buying online. I make most of my purchases that way, most often from Amazon which gives free shipping on orders over $25.00. And if you get a AAA Visa you can get 5% rebates on gasoline automatically credited to your card. That "earns" me $15-20 a month. Just a thought.

Good Success!

James

I'm too young to get a credit card...

Does anyone know any other sites that sell templates similar to the ones I posted?

Hey Gig, (Can I call you Gig?)

Since you are only fourteen, let's do this the correct way. If you are willing, I will teach you (and anyone else that is interested) how to put together a basic css page. I can write up a quick css sheet, based somewhat on the layout of the page you wanted to buy, which you can download, then I can show you how to create your own layout with the images you create. It would be a perfect tutorial for my site and it would help you and everyone else that doesn't yet know how to do that.
I use all the Adobe products to create my sites, but there are free alternatives available for download online. Although I have not used these I can download them and base the tutorial on them. Gimp is a photo program many use to create images, and I'm not sure about an html editor, maybe coffee cup? I'll have to check them out.
If you or anyone else is interested in this, let me know and we'll get it going.

Cheers,
Gig
