Default Giving up dreamweaver

I just got dreamweaver, and made an ftp link to my site. When I made a test page (a few pictures and text) and try to put it online, the "put" button was in gray and can't be clicked. I've searched all over the net and can't find a single answer.

So any other website building programs do you recommend? Cause dreamweaver's just pissing me off.

Well Dreamweaver has its own built in FTP, I cant really assist unless I see it however you could try using an external FTP program such as FileZilla

http://filezilla-project.org/

Dreamweaver is a very useful program, try it for a little bit longer at least and get to use its true power, I personally don't use its built in FTP as it lacks so many features such as changing 'permissions' etc.

So my advice would be to get an external, or if your really not satisfied try Coffee Cup they have lots of 'Free stuff' including a fully function html site builder.

Sorry you aren't liking Dreamweaver. I think it's great and like Rob said you can always use an external FTP program. If you use Firefox download their Fire FTP plugin. You can FTP right through your browser and it's so darn convenient.

Just wondering if you got this resolved? I just upgraded to the most recent version (CS3) and love it. Have you gone through the setup process and entered your FTP data into DW?

I'm afraid not. I tried to set an FTP link, but the "put" button is still in gray.

Can you tell me the configurations you chose when you were setting up the link? Cause I might have made a flaw somewhere.

Thanks

Under the "Site" Menu, there is a "New Site" option. Select that and fill in the necessary details. (It asks for your website URL, location of your web files on your PC, FTP user/pass, etc.) and when you're done you should be able to upload all your files.

I'm wondering if it's grayed out because you haven't told Dreamweaver your hosting/FTP information.

It's wherever your web HTML files are stored. For example, my site is saved in c:\Users\Documents\Web ... etc.

So it's like a folder shared by both your computer and your website? So it can't just be any random foler right?

How did you setup the folder?

Exactly.

It's just a folder on my c drive and I gave it any name I wanted. It contains my entire site. So it's a folder with an index.html (my homepage) and sub folders containing all my other pages.

I created it when I originally created my site in FrontPage (before I switched to Dreamweaver) but I've always kept my site stored on my hard drive.

So whatever program you use to build your site you always want to store it in a folder. Just navigate to the section of your hard drive where you want the folder stored and say "New Folder" (I'm assuming you're using Windows?)
