Default HTML quest

I was reading the thread below me and I was wondering if there are any websites or user friendly books one would suggest so I can learn HTML. I am a true beginer and have no exp w/HTML. However, I am a quick learner.

I appreciate any help.

Hi Flavel,

If I were you, I'd run over to my local book store...Any book written as an intro to HTML/XHTML will do. While you're at it, you might want to get a book for CSS as well as CSS (cascading style sheets) can be easily integrated into your html documents to easily format your pages.

If you're lucky, you can find some books that cover html, xhtml and CSS in one book.

After a quick search online, I came across one book that does such a thing as combining all three:

http://www.amazon.com/HTML-visual-bl...0337192&sr=8-6

I'm sure there are others I just don't recall the book titles nor the authors off the top of my head. Hope this helps.

W3 Schools do a very comprehensive guide on XHTML, HTML & CSS which you should look up also.

http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp (html)

http://www.w3schools.com/xhtml/default.asp (xhtml)

http://www.w3schools.com/css/default.asp (css)

But really it depends on how you learn best, I find learning easier by reading in a quiet room rather than on PC because I always get distracted on something!

Default Watch out, Flavel!

I guess I won't name the bad online tutors or the books I first bought when I was in your place, but I can tell you that MOST online sources and many books being sold are worse than inadequate, they are terrible and will teach you a lot of bad stuff. Once learned, these habits are hard to change.

Most of them use html code that is deprecated (obsolete and doomed for nonsupport) rather than css for design areas like color, positioning, etc. and use tables improperly for layout. If you follow the old outdated ways your site will be much harder to maintain and have lots of other unwanted qualities as well. Take some time to check this out, especially before spending money to poor resources.

If you can learn well off the computer the w3schools that Rob refers to are excellent, perhaps the best. Another great site http://www.htmldog.com/. The books from http://www.sitepoint.com are all excellent, especially Build Your Own Web Site The Right Way Using HTML & CSS. Go to sitepoint.com and you can download for free the first chapters to get started. You can also get the htmldog tutor in book form. Both of these books can be purchased through Amazon for much less than from the site.

Cool W3 Schools

I completely and whole-heartedly agree with Rob. W3 Schools is an AWESOME site! Definitely check it out if you can learn online.

They have tutorials for MANY different types of programming languages and HTML and CSS and stuff!

Once again...AWESOME site!
