How Do I FTP a Wordpress Theme?
Hello,
Could someone tell me how to ftp a Wordpress Theme, that is hosted by PowWeb? I believe I need to download an FTP program first like CuteFTP. What folder do I download the theme into? Thanks for any help in advance. I'm feeling a bit confused right now.

Hi Chris
Yes, if you use Firefox I would recommend downloading FireFTP. It works right inside the browser and opens up a new tab. If you use IE or some other browser then download CuteFTP or FileZilla
If your blog is going to be hosted in the root (go to yourdomain.com to access the blog) then you'll need to upload all files to the root folder (probably public_html). If you want the blog to be accessible from yourdomain.com/blog then you need to create a folder called "blog" with the FTP program and upload the wordpress files to that folder.

Wordpress has a folder called 'themes.' FTP your new theme in that folder after you unzip it. I use Filezilla. Or, go to your wordpress dashboard, go to 'add themes' and browse your pc for the zip file. WP will load it and unzip it. Then you can click Themes in the left column and it should be there in alphabetical order. You can preview it first to see how it will look, then activate it if you want to use it.

Hello,
As Lisa and Dee have suggested you must first download an FTP program. I have added a link to a screenshot showing how it's done (I used Fireftp for FireFox).
1) First download the theme you would like to use.
2) Download an FTP program (Fireftp and FileZilla are perfect and free)
3) ask your web host for your login details if you do not already have them/know how. Now login to your ftp program with the info your web host provided. (The info will also be in your welcome email)
4) on the left side (your local computer) locate your theme folder.
5) on the right side go to public_html > the folder storing wordpress > wp-content > themes
6) now select your theme folder (on the left side) and click on the arrow pointing to the right. Now wait while the program uploads your theme to wordpress.
7) next login to your wordpress admin and click on themes. Here you will be able to activate your theme
8) give yourself a pat on the back
The image below shows what it should look like.

Thanks everyone so much for your help. I really appreciate it. I have some chores to do and errands to run. Than I have my band practice this evening. So it might not be until later tonight or tomorrow until I get a chance to ftp my theme onto my webhost. All your help I'm sure is really going to help me though. You've made it very clear. Thanks again for all your help. I am using powweb, by the way, which I subscribed to for a year, through Lisa's affiliate link. Have a great remainder of the day by the way.

Thanks for all your help. I have ftped the new Wordpress theme that I ful, encouralike, and it is now the theme on my new blog. Everyones helpful, thoughtful, friendly posts is exactly why I truly believe this is the best forum around. I can tell you that from experience as well, as I have belonged to many other forums in the past. There are currently two other forums I'm a member of and they are nothing like the Website Babble Forum - not nearly as friendly and helpful. Members and moderators of many other forums could learn a lot from this forum. It is my sincere honour and pleasure to get to know you all through this forum.
