Url without .html/.php/etc??
I've come across a couple of sites that have no .html or .php at the end. It's just a slash. for example:
www.domainname.com/folder/
How can I do this? Is it something via ftp?

URL Rewriting
McKnight is right. It can be done with the mod_rewrite method if you're running on a Linux server. If you're running on a Windows server, then it's done a couple of different ways depending on which version of IIS you have.
URL rewriting can be tricky, as it requires query strings and programming. Not HTML and css, but programming like asp.net, php, ror, etc.
If you google URL rewriting or URL routing along with your hosting company, you're sure to find something that will help you!

I use these types of URL's for almost my whole site. It's quite simple to do.
1. make a folder on your server
2. whatever page you want to load, just name it as the index file for that folder
That's it. As far as requirements for the server, the other guys may be right about that. But, once you have a server that supports that, then it's quite easy.

That method can take a lot of time especially if you have a lot of HTML sites correct?

I suppose if you want to do it all at once it can. My site has been built slowly over 5 years, and all of the 'main' content pages are handled like this. Not every link on the site though. My news is run through a content management system, so those links are autogenerated. I'll post an example when I can.

Yea good point. If you started doing it like that from the beginning it would be great but if you have a few hundred HTML sites then it would be a weeks worth of work.

Yes, if you were looking to convert, then most definately that would be a lot of work! Like I said, I only use this method for my content pages. It makes it so much easier when telling someone a web address!
