When you installed simple machines forum, does it ask you what folder you want to install it in? Or did simple machines just automatically create a new directory and install it there? I've never used this forum so just checking to see if I can understand the setup.

Also, if the cpanel automatically installs it in that directory you can always setup domain forwarding to redirect to that address so when someone types in yourdomain.com, they will redirect to your forum.
